TRD shocks and springs
NoHachi Wrote:No you end up with a strut housing that is longer then the TRD shock (they are in reality AE92 shocks). At rest the shock would be hanging inside the cartridge. The shock doesn't come into work untill the slack is taken up by spring compression. After that the shock hits the bottom of the cartridge with a nice little bang and starts working. No good.
You add a spacer under the shock to make things nice and snug. The shock starts working immediately during compression.

The spacer itself is just a lump of metal, something anyone can make on the quick.

I just cant picture what is happening there, the spacer fits into the strut casing right, and then the shock screws in above it, the body of the shock is constant, so finding it hard to see whats going on!

NoHachi explained situation without spacer under shock.
With properly sized spacer, shock doesn't float and move inside struts.

Ok, so if I understand the maths correctly if you took 40mm off the strut casing, and used a 20mm spacer, then if you did nothing, the TRD shock floats 60mm above the bottom of the strut.

My AE92 TRD short strokes came with spacers. They were close to bottoming out but not quite.

Ah ok, I dont think mine will, but no big deal to lath some up. What length were yours? 20mm or 60mm? Oddly enough the TRD spacers are 22mm and 60mm. Im guessing the 60mm is if you dont shorten the strut casing.

Yeah 60mm. Some people cut 30-40mm off the spacer and the rest from the strut body. I wouldn't recommend the T3 ones as they space the strut down and would most likely cause you to bottom out big time. The trd ones sit underneath so you get full travel.

Depending on the length of the damper shaft:

Placing the spacer above or below the damper body will make the bottoming out occur on the top mount or the bottom of the damper respectively...

In other words, if the shaft length sticking out at full extension is more than the stroke, fit a spacer on top of the damper. If not, using a top spacer will only shorten the (already short) stroke.

Everybody feel free to post some damper shaft lengths and strokes...
