They aren't rare in Belgium at all, somehow people just don't drive them as much .
There have been a lot for sale the last couple months. And also the prices seem to go down a bit
So you should be able to find one without too much problems when you're ready.

I think they're as rare as here in the Netherlands. They are around, some people drive them regularly, and most others use them for weekends/trackdays. I think the highest chance of seeing one is at a local drift event or a car meet.

Regarding the prices: yes, I have noticed lately that cars are being offered for sale at pre-COVID prices. Those were quickly sold, but I think, in general, the prices are going down as people start to realise they are overpaying for these cars. That doesn't mean a well-built/tuned or a mint car can't fetch a premium. I'm referring to the far-from-perfect cars that were also insanely priced.

I agree, it's starting to get more "normal" as anyone should realize that a rustbucket is, almost, always too expensive. To turn a neglected AE86 into a good looking, solid car can easily cost you 15k in parts and labor.

The rusty black car on marktplaats was sold recently for ~4k instead of the 7,5k asking price. Basically the value in parts of the driveline. Which is reasonable in my opinion.

I think a mint LHD car can still do 20k, but it requires the right buyer. Anything that needs a lot of work should be <5k. If you're after big money you need to have a excellent RHD UK spec or the Inital D Trueno.

i havent gone to a trackday or car show or anything like that im way to busy for that. i havent seen one go onsale in a while maybe a levin in sliver with no side trim but thats all.

im maybe going to look for a lhd model maybe a hatch if they were ever sold here. btw that will be in a couple years from now.
parts would be one hell to get in belguim.

For a track car, it's in good condition, has a cage and some good stuff. As Koen said, if you have to convert a 4K rusty shell into something like this, you probably spend a lot more money on labour. In that sense, it's not too bad. But someone who wants to convert the gearbox to a J160 will not be interested in the whole Gertrag conversion.

Another reason why it's not selling easily is that the location is in Sweden. I can't hop into the car, and drive a few hours to check it out myself. Instead, I have to drive for more than a day or fly there by plane.

Finally, it may not be eligible for registration. Here in the Netherlands, registration and legality are quite lax, but in Germany and Belgium, they are very strict. In Germany, you need to have Tüv approval on every non-OEM part in the car, and in Belgium, you even have to use stuff like OEM wheels to pass (import) inspection.

You can set e-mail reminders on most websites. They will notify you I'm very sure some users here are all using the same tags on dutch/belgium sites. All good/rare/cheap stuff is sold within 24h. You can join the game

Parts are easy in Belgium ... you can order new stuff from Flos.ie which arrives within a few days with reasonable shipping costs (usually about €30,-) and used parts are everywhere at mostly the rally guys. The difficult part is getting to know them. I try to pick my marktplaats/2dehands finds up. Although it takes a lot of time (and fuel), it gives the oppertunity to look around at the seller, have a chat and create a network if you ever need something specific. Usually they are enthousiasts who also know other people

That car on marktplaats is in Sweden, I've bought a car from him. Took 35h of driving but now I know he is thrustworthy and has lots of parts

We never officially the hatch here, but they are around if you have patience.
Belgium is literally one of the easier countries to find the parts compaired to some other countries in Europe.
They where used in rally alot in Belgium and Germany because they where better out of the box compared to an Escort or Kadett. So when they where dirt cheap all the rally guys just hoarded the cars or stripped them for parts and some are starting to sell their stuff.
I build my 86 (That I bought in Belgium) from a rolling shell to a driveable car in the last couple months so i'm talking from actual experience

well its good to know its easy to get parts.

btw what color was the rolling shell wen you got it?
btw im asking because i saw a sliver rolling shell some time ago.

I know there were 5 sold as hatchback (of about 200 sold) within the Netherlands, but those are an exception to the rule. There is only one known survivor of those 5.
Hatchbacks aren't that difficult to find: Portugal, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, France and Greece all got the hatchback. Only the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Portugal got the two door.

There are many shells for sale. The issue is mostly finding and sourcing the necessary parts.
