Last sunday Mux and I saw an excellent example of such a thing at Roubos: it was being used as a cart to place the welding equipment on. Big Grin

Actually, it was battery equipment Banpei,

I'll try and remember to take a photo next time.

They got this HUGE batery and charger setup on one of these things so they can haul it up to the campers that are parked in storage and hook up in case their battery has died during storage.

Beats carrying the heavy biatch.

Last update on this car was AGES ago. How is it doing? still in one piece, or did you sell it already?

He attacked everything in life with a mix of extrordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which.

Wow.. 2 years later and this thing still hasnt seen much track action.
It's explainable though, we found out a lot of very nasty problems that made the car unsafe to drive around on the street, let alone a track. E.g.: Engine was only mounted solidly on 1 side, it was only leaning on the other mount.
The other biggie was the way the seats where mounted on a collection of old crap mounts that were welded together rather poorly.

Little status update just so you guys know it aint dead yet:
-Enginemount was modified this weekend, did a bit of welding and the engine is mounted solidly again.
-Driverside seat is out for a complete redesign of the mounting hardware.
I'm modding a pair of porsche (944?) sliders to fit the oem mounting points, and making my own frame to connect the seatframe to them. That will also sort out the driving position troubles as it will be adjustable again.
- Car has been streetlegal again for a while now. MOT and all.
- Turbo oilfeed has been fixed up, turbo has been replaced with a fresher T25.
-JDM kouki bumper has been trial fitted yesterday, fits like a glove without any mods for the whopping big intercooler that is hiding behind it.
We will be making some lightweight mounts for it shortly, and it will probably get some additional slots/holes to help get more air to the intercooler.

TODO:
-passenger seat mounting (no rush though)
-new bonnet, current one is nackered due to thieves not closing it properly after stealing the HKS airfilter (it blew against the window twice, they tried to steal the blow-off valve another time).
-The pockets in the boot need some serious welding, no problem though since it's all out of sight.
-Engine has a nasty boost leak.. need to get this fixed up somehow.
-Clutch could do with replacement
-The crankcase rear oil seal is leaking, need to replace this when the clutch is off.
-Bodywork in general can wait untill it is driving properly again.

And another bumpy...

Work is slowly progressing on both the KE25 and the AE86.. Won't bore you guys with details. Bad camera pics aren't much better, but they will have to do.

Updates so far:
Kouki bumper fitted.
Upgrade to spec-clutch stage3 paddle clutch
Nardi steering wheel

Also decided to redo the suspension. The old brake set-up really didn't slow the car down enough above say 180kph...and the car gets to those speeds VERY quickly, so that got interesting on a couple of occasions. I was really tempted to use the RX7 set-up, but after seeing a friend go through a lot of brake problems (no rx7 setup, but similar) decided to go for a tried and tested Wilwood solution.

Also the suspension wheel rates of the AE86 are still a mystery to me. The old 9/7 setup was undriveable.. that corresponds with this table for suspension frequencies:

0.5 - 1.5 Hz for passenger cars
1.5 - 2.0 Hz for sedan racecars and moderate downforce formula cars
3.0 - 5.0+ Hz for high downforce racecars

9/7 corresponds to 3.6Hz/3.8Hz in our Trueno...way too high! So decided to try something else.. From the Ringmazda we found out that 1.9Hz works really well at the nordschleiffe. Since the nordschleiffe is like the ultimate touge, I reasoned that such frequencies would be well suited for a easily controllable car and a couple of rookie drivers.
In the end I ordered, 5.8kg/mmF and 4.5kg/mmR springs corresponding to 2.3Hz/2.4Hz. Anything softer would not match our short stroke suspensions range of stroke. So slightly above the ultimate touge setting and might need a bigger front bar at the track (we have one we can try)

Next steps: weld together the new alloy intercoolerpiping and replace most of the old silicone couplings. Reflashed ROM for slightly richer mixtures and set boost back to 16PSI. Also will be doing a mayor rework of all suspension settings on the car.

And another pictureless bump.

Soldered a stage 1 eeprom chip into the ca18 ecu. Was quite a job, as it usually is on factory soldered boards and lacking the right tools, so I was afraid I might have toasted it.

Anyhow, the car now runs again, and the O2 readings are looking a hell of a lot better than they were with the stock ecu.
Also no more explosions in the exhaust when you give it some welly.

NoHachi, interesting, that is basically the suspension setup I was running on my car, front was roughly 6.25 to 6.5 and read 4.5 Big Grin I loved the way my car handled with that setup.
