Rear Brakes
O.K so I spent nearly the whole day on the rear disc brakes and they still drag. The handbrake (parking brake) was the original problem so I changed the caliper, problem solved. Enter next problem, no matter what I do the brakes bind whenever the footbrake is used. Parking brake o.k now though. If I tap the caliper with a hammer Blush they are fine until used again.......
Thanks for any help

rebuild them... binding brakes are usually caused by sticking pistons. When you take them apart you can judge the state of the pistons for yourself. If you still have some other calipers left, compare, pick the best ones and rebuild those.

Yeah, I've already had the piston out and cleaned everything up, seemed alright. Can a caliper be tested on the bench ? What makes the piston return ?
I'm beginning to think the caliper mounting post (top one) could be slightly bent, if I undo the 10mm bolt until it's hand tight and then re-fit caliper there is a definate improvement.

The rubber seal is what pulls the piston back a little bit... you might want to check those mounting posts too. See if they are straight, and lube them up.

Just an update that some may find useful:
My suspicions about the main pin were correct, it was ever so slightly bent when fitted. The end that bolts to the carrier was not perfectly flat so the pin was offcentre when bolted up.
Maybe this info will help anyone else with sticking rear brakes.
Thanks to all that replied Thumbs up! RS
