Yeah, I watched a few other videos with Neil and found out he's not hoarding them to rust away but also part them out like Mr X was doing for the AE86es in Ireland! Thumbs up!
If you pass by his lot, do share some images or videos!

Not AE86 related, but if you like kaido racers then this channel may be of interest. The build videos are what initially caught my attention. Those cars are so well built, would love to make one too if I had time.
Looks like has has a Lamborghini, a Bentley and a Kaido racer, so he probably works in software or something:

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Respect!

Looks like the first video is the yearly parade drive to Tokyo Auto Salon. Most of those kaido racers are famous cars, especially the C210 used as video thumbnail. That one even was driven by Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo when they were still team mates.
I deny knowing anything about kaido racers at all... Hypocryte

Can you please tell me where those popular bonnet vents come from? They look like the vents from the TA22/RA28 Celica. It seems like most of the Kaido Racers use them, so it's unlikely to be a custom part.

Yes you are right, those are the bonnet vents for the Celica RA25/TA27. They could be reproduction though.
I still deny knowning anything about kaido racers... Hypocryte

Thanks, I didn't even know there was a difference between the TA22 and TA27 vents until I read your post. I'll stock up on vents before I ever build such a car in future then.

I'm split 50/50 between inspiration and avoid on this restoration of a very rusty GTV:

There are so many sketchy things happening in that video: using the excavator as a lift, a big wooden beam as support whilst working under the car, stitching the rear hatch together with a soldering iron and lead, painting the car outside in an open field and the list goes on... If you look well you will see the paint looks awful: it is done uneven and has a lot of matte areas on the bonnet.
On the other hand: this car would otherwise rusted away in misery and never seen the light of day again, so it is good they saved it.
The video has 600K views and mostly positive comments. This proves once again people only go for the looks and not if its done well. Imagine someone doing the a similar job and then selling it off to someone unsuspecting on the other side of the globe...

That's not an impressive "restoration" at all.
As mentioned, it's good that they kept it from becoming another pile of scrap, but from experience I've found that bad restorations just make it harder to restore the car correctly. It would almost have been better if they had just left the car alone.

I would not call it a restoration at all. He just covered up the rust and made it look OK, so this will come back in couple of months.
If you are doing this to sell the car and screw the buyer (or youtube views) - he did a great job on doing that.
I personally would prefer that the left the body untouched and let the profesional do the rust repair. I'm avoiding such restored cars because it usually backfires at you and you end up having more work then expected because everything was covered up in the first place.
On the other hand i know a lot of cars stuck in the limbo of project car status for years (decades) that were never finished.
And the fact that he did all this in the backyard in the open air totally fascinated to me!!!

That's how 80% of the AE86es find their fate in Japan.

Even shops have left them to rot over the past decades as they didn't hold any value. Now that the prices are going through the roof they may be interesting to restore, but many are already beyond repair.
Also many privately owned AE86es that are rotting away in backyards are often cars that hold certain sentimental value, so the owners are not interested in selling them.
