Oil Pressure - Kinda weird
Hey guys!

First of all let me wish nice vacations to everyone! The summer is here and the hachi's need some km's on their tires! Thumbs up!

Recently i've been dealing with a strange problem on my corolla.

Low Oil Pressure at idle!!!!

To let you know the problem itself i can explain what is happening and how, when i start the car at cold pressure goes to middle (2/4). When warm drops to (1/4), sometimes it goes to (0/4) but as soon as i press the accelerator and drive a bit it goes again to (2/4), the final stage is, when i really drive it RACE MODE, it goes to (3/4) sometimes even higher.....

So the problem here is, at idle it always drops to a low pressure value, but it responds immediately as soon as i press the accelerator!

My oil is Elf Competition 100% synthetic 10W40! The Oil is filled to FULL and the car is not leaking oil to nowhere! Wink

What can it be?

Regards to all!

sounds like its fine. I have seen it drop due to tempature differences. I would say

3/5 = center
2/5 = idle warm weather
4/5 = hard driving
1/5 & 5/5 are not good

The problem is that 1/5 you mentioned.... at idle.... Sounds like the pressure is too low....

What value should it be "normal" at warm idle?!

Sounds perfectly fine to me, too!
I whould´t overestimate the accuracy the oem gauge.

According to manual:
at idle: 0,3bar
at 3000rpm: 2,5-5bar

Go to a garage, they have a gauge that screws into the oilpressure sender place and gives you an acurate reading.
thread of the sender is 1/8" BSPT.

+1

Dont assume your 20-25yr old electronic stuff still works correctly. Nothing beats good ol fashioned mechanic gauges.

Steve.....this is sparrrrrtan

Oil Pressure - Kinda weird
Just to close the thread, the car was losing oil on the oil level gage, the o-ring was pretty much dead, and broken. All the oil pressure was escaping there, and the oil consumption was high because i was losing oil due that gap...... It's solved now, the car is rollin again, with 0 problems!

Regards Hurray!

Oil Pressure - Kinda weird
Just updating this thread... The issue is not solved yet!

Well let's see...

After my crash, and engine removal, i found that my headgasket is leaking oil by the 4th cylinder... I did a compression test and the results are these...

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Oil Pressure - Kinda weird]

This was made last year....

The car doesn't smoke at all...
The car rev's perfectly....

The engine sounds like really normal to be honest! I did some driving this weekend, did 200Km at an average speed of 160Km/h and the car did very well to be really honest....

The oil consumption is high. I was at mid level and after this trip (600Km) i lost like 2mm of oil on the oil level gage...

The oil pressure at idle continues like low... As you can see in this picture...

What may be the cause of all this oil consumption?! Confused Confused

Regards

Compression reading is not great to be honest, should still run alright, but more than 1 bar difference is were the problems start.
Put some oil into 4th and see if the pressure rises, could be piston rings, burning oil? Blue smoke if you drive normal, than floor the pedal?

As stated in my other post, go to a garage connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge and see what it reads.
Those genunine gauges are crap, mine was showing low pressure, but it´s fine on the manual gauge and now on the defi gauge.

The compression values yeah... the engine is like normal, but it's accusing something...

The oil level is weird! I don't smoke at all! Not at cold start, idle, driving or pushing to limits... Not even a white smokey cloud..... nothing!

Where's the oil going?! =O

Yeah... i'll take my car to a master....

"(600Km) i lost like 2mm "

WAG is about 14mm = 1L, so it's doing about 4200km per liter.
Your panties are bunched up for no reason except the compression!
The compression needs to be checked wet. 4 reads lower on many tests from getting wiped dry by the time the first 3 are done, but 4 does run hotter in most engines and is often the first to loose compression.

So what!
