Finally got round to fitting some of the T3 bits to hachi this weekend with the help of my brother.

First off was the quickshift kit. Its a real joy to work on the hachi interior. Its that 80s build quality that just falls apart in your hands. To remove the lower central console and tranny console was about 10 screws and 1 minute. - if it had been my VW Golf I would have needed all sorts of specialist tools and 2 hours.

Rubber gator and inner liner in good condition with no splits so could be re-used. The small rubber boot that covers the greasy bit was split but we managed to use the main part of the boot to stop the grease escaping on the new shifter. installed gasket goo onto the gearbox casing and the spacer plate and bolted it all back up.

The throw on the gearstick is now great - very small compared to before and it makes changing feel very very snicky and quick (funny that a quickshift would have that effect LOL).

Next job was the decat pipe. On first inspection we thought we'd need to weld some hangers onto the pipe but as we took the old one off we realised the hangers were on a bracket/backplate to join the 2 sections. This needed to be attacked with an angle grinder so that it would allow the flange of the new decat pipe to fit inside.

My cat pipe also had a sensor 'after' the catalyst which goes back up into the car under the passenger seat. We traced these wires back to a socket in the passenger footwell near when the master circuit breaker is. I can only assume that this is a post catalyst O2 sensor (as described above in this thread).

but there is nothingn really specific about it.

I am making a BIG assumption that my car would no longer use the 2nd O2 sensor because of the freedom ECU. The cat pipe is installed and the 2nd sensor is not being used. Car runs fine, no engine light, ecu 'seems' to be behaving itself.

I will try and contact moto-p and see if he can shed any light on this second sensor. Worst case is I need to take the pipe off again and get a boss welded on - but I'm pretty sure it will be fine as it is.

Car now sounds awesome - but not too loud.

Good to hear everything mounted up Ok. Gabe does do the trumpets for the 20V ITB. You can then get some foam filters to go over them Big Grin
By the way, me and some friends are comming over to the UK on the 22nd and 23rd of January for the drift practice at Silverstone and then at Bovingdon. Will you make it as well with your 86? Big Grin Big Grin I really want to see your ITB set up as I am currently unsure about what I am going to do with my engine Confused Confused

I am hoping to do the silverstone day.

I still need some spare 15x7 or 15x8 wheels for the back but I will try and be driving (I need all the practice I can get LOL)

The way the trumpets are mounted on my ITBS at the moment is a bit of a bodge.

Its hard to see on that photo and I promise I will try and get a better one for you. basically there is a single steel plate that is bolted onto the ITBS (obviously with holes for each of the inlets). The plate then has a tube for each inlet welded onto it (not especially accurate) with the K&N filter on the end.

I took the filters off the other day and was quite shocked with what I found. Basically there is a trumpet inside each of the tubes that is just held in place with some form of silicone seal (sikaflex high temp I guess). One of them is actually loose and you can here it shaking arround at between 2000-3000rpm until the velocity in the trumpet becomes enough to hold it in place. I was convinced I had serious det or a bad injector or something - I need to sort these ASAP.

Check T3, they have them. Here is a picture. Would be great if you can make it to the Silverstone day. Places are ltd to 35 so they might be full soon.
I know what you mean about getting all the practice you can get, drove 200km one way yesterday morning to get some track time in France. Was worth every KM tough Big Grin Big Grin Was able to hold some nice drifts in the end Big Grin Big Grin
The trumpet situation on your car does not sound good, where was it done? In Japan? Huh Huh

hello ian g, sounds like a real supercustom manifold you have. i would be happy having ITB and stick the trumpet back into with silicone anyway Smile

you have two o2 sensors? maybe one is of the original ecu? or maybe one is for lambda 1 control after cat the other for wide band control of the fredom ecu? i dont know...

did you find out how to tune the freedom yet?

I keep saying I'm going to contact moto-p and never seem to get round to it. I have to take some pictures of a few things first before I contact him.

A friend of mine spoke to the Gems chap we know the other day and he can replace the ecu and all the sensors on my car and remap for £950 - its not a bad price but I haven't given up on freedom yet.

Hopefully I will get some more time soon as I stop visiting my office on friday and don't go back until January Hurray! - I need a rest - its been a real busy year.

950 pounds sounds fair for the whole lot including tuning. what a pity the freedom ecu is so difficult to find out. is it the software for the laptop thats missing or is it the lack of your japanese vocabulary :wink:

i found it very cool having a japanese car with original japanese standalone ecu.
i allready talked to my japanes buddy. he is not good in technical terms but if you have an andress to contact freedom in japan he could try to get some information if you like.

I can get the 4xITB trumpets/velocity tacks for £102 delivered to my door !!! I think I will be having a set of these once I can confirm I can get correct fitting socks from Pipercross/K&N.

Also found out they now do the Rewind wheels in 15x7 0 offset which is exactly what I need to clear my FC 4pots up front and S13 rear disks. Price again is amazing at just under £400 including shipping.

Exchange rate is now a crazy $1.97 per £1.

Glad you got through with the velocity stacks! They look very nice. Make sure you tell him which 20V ITB you have, blactop or silver top as they are different!
If you ever change your ECU to a GEMS then let me know as I would be intrested in your Freedom ECU Big Grin Big Grin
