LPG on AE86? Is it smart?
I have a good offer for an LPG (natural gas) instalation in my car.
For example, in Croatia, 1L of gasoline is around 1,2€ and 1L of LPG is something like 0,5€.

But, gas is not always a great solution. Some friends had LPG on 4AGE and the engine died in some 50 000km.
LPG is great for engines that revolute to some 5000rpms, but 4AGE goes almost to 8000... And, as I heard LPG has slower propogation of flame and is dryer than gasoline. (noob)

Has enyone has experience with this on 4AGE?

this one has been running for a lot of kilometers:

But I don't think anyone around here has any experience with LPG on a 4aGE... Confused

Perhaps NoHachi has a clear view on this. Smile

THere was a dutch guy as well who had it. He removed it. If you take LPG which should be fine just don't rev it over 5k. When you do go on gas!

yes... That is exactly what bothers me... How can you keep a 4age below 5krpm? Smile It is so nervous... Smile

In Croatia a lot of them do LPG instalation but rearly enyone knows the detailed picture... If I had an VW or similar, I wouldn't think about it... I would do it... 4AGE doesnt grow on trees...

Thanks guys... If you heare anything more... please post here...

For now, I know one Hachi that had LPG and it blew 2 engines... Sad

mrgud ae86 is a car that you have fun with and 9 litres per 100kms aint that much for the fun it brings you. if you want an economy ride buy a Lupo 3L or something like that. Dont kill the spirit of the hachiroku with LPG..

well thats just my view on things..

true true

correct me if I'm wrong...

LPG is a gas and is more dry than petrol, which in some way lubricates the cylinder. So doesn't LPG shortend the life of any engine?

It does, gas is indeed more dry than gasoline and tends to wreck the engine pretty fast. Modern engines and LPG installations can handle it pretty well, some carmanufacturers even build them in from factory if you want to.

But don't bother with it on older engines, especially performance engines and high revving engines. They don't respond well to the dry mixture.

Another thing is that the engine will get less mileage out of a litre of LPG than it does with gasoline. Couple that with the added cost of installing the LPG and extra maintenance and you'll have to drive quite a few km per year to make it economically viable...

But that's just my two cents... Smile

I say same, if you don't rew it abowe 5000 rpm, LPG is ok, but if you rew it forget LPG.

I was also thinking about LPG, but I didn't decide yet.

LPG tank is hevy and that is what is my problem.

Beside, I got also a motorcycle, so I solve some problems with that.
