Brake problems
I was changing my brakepads on the rear and half way i run stuck...
the space between the brakepiston and brakecaliper arms (A on foto) is smaller than the brakepads + brakedisk (B). I've turned the piston to the max than it fits but the deep surface on the piston is not at the good place. Doesn't match the higher surface on the pads, so I had to turn it a bit anti-clockwise. After that size A is to small... Help me please! I don't know what to do

it should fit about flush with the surface behind it, if it stops turning earlier then your handbrake mechanism is getting bad (mine is really bad..)
Use more force and try to turn it in further.. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

ivan: Do you have the tool for turning the piston? I use a (waterpomptang) but can't use more force to turn the piston.

In the worst case you can take a flat sheet of sanding paper and sand the pad down until it fits.

take the cap off the reservoir. turn piston to full extent clockwise then one quarter back or until the recesses are in line, thats the brakes set, if the pads wont fit in as happens on my car, shave a little of the face of the pad bout a mm and it`ll slip in. it takes a bit of practice but you can get it flat if you try. it does lower the life of the pad a tiny bit, but at least they fit.
removing the handbrake can help, but it can be a bugger to refit so i never bother, as the handbrakes on AE86`s are just crap!!!! Its gotta go whoosh or give a whine!!!! |

thanks guys! I think I need to shave the brakepads a little, because it won't fit. is it a problem if i let the shims out? it saves me 1 mm extra shaving....

Should not be a problem they're just to avoid squeeling. I don't have any shims on my EE80 front brakes as well. And I left them off only after discussing that with my local garage guy.

Better rebuild calipers. Or at least change the brake fluid...
