Koen's 86 - every drive a new issue
(02-23-2026 02:14 AM)DarkSupra Wrote: Oh awesome you still got it Yeah! funny story it was sold in a package deal to someone else after I had an agreement with him "because he wouldn't take the whole package without the powersteering". So I asked who bought it and got it from him ![]() So did some more work because I want to get the car registered tomorrow. It's basically finished except from some things I butchered together to get it working which I'll redo later. Tried to make the car as road-legal as possible to make a decent appearance. The MOT will be done later, this is just to get license plates. Brake lines are in and the bigger mastercilinder from the Celica is fitted. All works ![]() Switched both headlights because one was missing the adjusters (and the tab inside was broken of course, so the reflector was wobbling) and the other one had a crack in the glass. A good left one was in my spares but a right one had to be made from 2 other lights. One with a broken glass and one from a different car model (I don't remember which one, but Toyota). I used the guide from Clemens https://www.clemenszangl.de/2025/03/08/h...eadlights/ and opened both, switched the glass and closed them again. Next was a different electric fan. The previous one was from some random car and fitted poorly. Ordered a SPAL one, made a new fan shroud and fitted it to the aluminium radiator. The car doesn't have a sunroof but there is evidence that it used to have one. I can't understand what they did, but the frame is still in the car. The roof is nicely curved so it doesn't look like they just welded a plate in. Removing the frame is too much work (and a lot of risk in damaging paint ect.) so I made a cover will do for now.Put in the spare wheel, seats and seatbelts Battery is now in it's new location. It's one of those dry battery models so it doesn't need a full enclosure. The engine bay looks like this now. Not completely happy with the routing of all the wiring and all the parts but it will do for now. I like the bays where everything is invisible, but that's not very practical for service so it will always be a compromise. And fitted a set of "redlines" today. They won't stay on the car. Not a big fan of these lights in combination with the original spoiler. But I want to try to get the small plates in my documents so this is my solution. Hopefully they accept it

My first thought was you were going to fit the plates of your other hatch on this one, and I was like wtf?! But then I read you did that to see how it would look and fit, and then it all made sense!

Haha, yes that would have been easier (and cheaper ) but it will get it's own plates ![]() I visited the RDW yesterday and the car passed a nice gentleman inspected the car and he recognized the model which makes having a small chat easy he gave me the 18.2 (small) plates with a smile. Unfortunately it turns out that the car was first registered in 1989. Small error when buying the car so this doesn't really work out with the Dutch tax laws. There is some legislation that it is possible to change this to the production date. Lets see if I can get that done ..

Congratulations, and you were lucky with the inspector!
My first AE86 was imported with the (original) USDM licenseplate lighting. The inspector told the person importing it that there was plenty of room on the bumper to mount the European licenseplate lighting and denied 18.2 plates. But this was in the early 1990s, so it might be that they have become a bit more relaxed on this. About the legislation: we chatted about this earlier. For completion: the Dutch tax law states to comply to the oldtimer-tax it (by default) is supposed to have been first registered before january 1989. The Dutch automobile federation states that you can have this changed to the built date of the car, but then you will need a "birthcertificate" (Certificaat van Overeenstemming) from your manufacturer. I don't have any experience requesting this from Toyota, but my best guess would be to inquire about this at your local dealership and explain the situation. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop:

I think it's just luck and granting .. also the car is now a classic and it was a shitbox in the early nineties (03-11-2026 08:05 AM)banpei Wrote: About the legislation: we chatted about this earlier. They told me I probably need the COC (Certificate of Conformity) which should exist for every Toyota (even 40 years old). Unfortunately it's a document that is only handed out once by delivery of the car. It's very official according to the guy behind the counter with a stamp/watermark. He told me that he can only request copies for Toyota's that are first registered in the Netherlands and that I should contact a, probably, Danish dealer or Toyota Danmark (my guess is that my car is Danish) for this car. Since it was first delivered there. Anyone have any contacts there? ![]() The registration arrived yesterday there was a specific reason why I wanted the car to be "finished" last Monday. We can't get personal plates in the Netherlands, but it would be funny to have my initials and these were being used this week .. it worked https://kenteken.tv/kentekenvoorspeller.php was quite accurate. |

The CoC is an EU document and doesn't exist for pre-EU cars. You'll have to get original registration documents for your specific car from the country where it was first registered (e.g. "Fahrzeugbrief" if it was first registered in Germany, "Fahrzeugausweis" in Switzerland, etc). I don't know at what date the EU ratified the common market access for vehicles using this document. For cars that are eligible to receive a CoC, you can request it from the manufacturer in the country it was first sold. |
