Dirt-cheap header from ebay.. ?
Now I am fully aware that usually, there's a good reason why 'good' performance parts from japan have their price (like 600 euro for a good header)
Still, i've noticed this particular header and the people who bought so far (looking at the comments) seem to be happy with quality and how well it fits. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-84-85...otohosting Anyone ever tried one of those? If I had one of those modified / strenghtened where needed, this could be a really cheap way of getting more flow, right? Also, they're made for LHD... any comments appreciated, I might just get one of those to have a look... |

From what I've heard, the OBX exhaust manifold for AE86 is a nearly 1:1 copy of the discontinued 4-1 TRD manifold. The welds may need a bit of cleaning up from the inside (my friend's OBX downpipe for 3S-GTE was a mess from the inside) but the price is very attractive nevertheless.
Here's one example; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Racin...dZViewItem |

Fallguz - that header DOES NOT FIT AT ALL, only the flange can direct bolt on and other than that the header is hitting every part of your car, you need alot of banging of your car and cut the header and reweld it.

I think there are actually good quality OBX headers, and then there are 'seconds' which get sold cheaper by the manufacturer, but find there way onto ebay, and get sold and full value by crooks.
I have read that people have bought the OBX headers, which after installation go directly into the firewall... But I have also heard of other people, mounting them with no problems whatsoever. In some ebay auctions, they actually say in the description that they have the 'good' ones. It's good to do a background check on their rep etc. And avoid buying the ones which are 20$ cheaper than others... .. ?" alt="[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Dirt-cheap Always remember: Rev it till it blows, then back off a bit... Dirt-cheap header from ebay.. ?
OK guys i've used the search function a few more times to get more info on this whole header story.
What i've understood is that when using a 4-1 header, i'll lose a noticable amount of lower end torque compared to a 4-2-1.. Since my hachi is for street use, i'd definately want to use a 4-2-1 header then. So... What options are available as affordable Left-hand drive 4-2-1 headers? The japanese brands i've seen are all for RHD cheers |

I don't think the stock 4-2-1 leaves a lot on the table.. most of the gain from a header comes from moving the torque peak higher up in the RPMs. Maybe just address the step in the stock exhaust from the 2-1 piece to the exhaust. That will get you 95% of the gain of an aftermarket header.
