Digital Dash
I'll be coming home again and will have time to play again with the digital cluster. hopefully I can make it work now. anyone has already made their own wirings and successfully worked?
thanks |

Can you share your wiring?

I have them somewhere.....
What i did was to use the original wires and added a bit more of wiring to "rewire" on the new dash! Everthing is working so its done properly ![]() I'll take some pictures |

Is it possible to use an electronic speed sensor, then use it to the digital cluster? Anyone already did this?

Digital cluster uses cable, same as analog, have reed swtch which counts revs and translates to speed.
Not sure what kind of signal digital speed sensor makes, but i presume it is not switching current, guess it raises/lowers voltage as all other. In that case one must make simple electronic circuit to get switching and wire it in place of reed switch. Only thing left to solve is how to synchronize frequency of speed sensor with tacho display, i'm sure there will be significant difference. |

i think it is hall effect, since it has 3 cables. my final drive now is 4.778 and when I use my speedo cable to analog cluster, it reads 30kph more.

I presume it was reading more even at 4.3 FD.
With 4.778 difference is 11% so it should read 30kmh more at 270 kmh ![]() HALL or VR, doesn't make a difference, you will need some kind of circuit to adapt to AE86. AFAIR there were some avaliable online, not cheap atlhough. |

I would suggest putting an optocoupler in place of the reed switch, and feed that with the electric speed sensor signal. If the signal is too different and needs calibration, then you would need to put a microcontroller in there to read the signal and generate an appropriate output signal. Nice hobby project if you're into that sort of thing, it's very simple hardware wise, and I'm sure appropriate example code for the signal generation can be found online.
