Wow! That's a nice rental car! Thumbs up!
Are you aware that you can also rent the AE86 at Fun2Drive? You're not allowed to go anywhere on your own, but at least you can "taste" how it is to drive in your own AE86 within Japan. Wink

+1 for fun2drive, although they have fewer cars than when I was there last time.

Drove past fun2drive (stayed in Hakone for a couple nights), they had an old Skyline outside and a few other cars.
As I'm traveling with my better half the spirited driving was kept to a minimum.

I haven't driven a modern car for several years now and I've got to say some of the creature comforts are very nice. Like usable adaptive speed control. Made the drive back to Yokohama a breeze.

back home and found the time to once more realise how bad I am at editing pictures. Alas my effort as far as I could be bothered to play around with it.
We got lucky though as the first day was very cloudy and the mountain blended in with the background.

You made the right choice to do a road trip in a GR86!

I was actually crossing my fingers for the GR Yaris as it would have been more wife friendly.
I just picked the category with those two cars and fortunately in Yokohama they actually have some in the fleet, most places do not.
If one way fees in Japan would be more affordable I probably would have driven all the way to Osaka instead of returning to Yokohama. Last road trip from Aomori to Shizuoka the fee was ~400 but it was worth it.

Eitherway, it was a nice trip and decent farewell to Japan for some time. At least we managed to cover around two thirds of the country in our last few trips (no new areas this time around).

We will definitely return a few more times in the future when our geographical location allows it.
