So, I've been getting small bit done as and when time and finances allow. Was advised by a panel-beater friend that trial fitting wings and bonnet would be a major help... So bought a fibreglass bonnet. Also hired out a porta power for a day to reallign the driver's side door opening
Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk ... involved a fair bit of setting-up, then gradually increasing the pressure, releasing and allowing it to return. This was repeated several times until it eventually returned to the desired position Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk Trial fit of frp bonnet.... there'll be many more trial fittings lol Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk Made a simple tram-guage ....I'm going to need this when it comes to setting the front end up for welding... Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk Still making additions to the jig...also set-up the laser level last night and marked the position of the chassis leg on the firewall Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk Trials and tribulations ...was undoing the brace between the front chassis leg ends when the bolt on the new leg kept turning and turning turns out that the captive nut is no longer captive. Now in going to have to drill out some of the welds and pry it open to weld the nut back on again Ho-hum Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk |

Great work.. Nothing is ever easy. I had one of the captive nuts on my hood fail on my 86.

Instead of opening the box section to repair the captured nut, you can file two small slots in the side of the bolt hole, approx. 180* apart. Make the slots large enough for to tack welds. Use a long bolt to hold and pull the nut up tight against the surface, then tack in place, and then smooth out the weld surface. A lot less work. Dave W

Well, got the leg/apron temporarily fastened... Used various m5 nuts and bolts, washers, fasteners... also dropped the subframe jig and tried out a reasonably straight subframe that was connected to some Cashiew coilovers, and the bolts slipped right in: result!
Next will be checking for squareness and trial fitting the bonnet and wings before welding. Also, I have 3 rad supports ranging from poor to pure sh1t lol, might look for a good used one, though I think Flo's have them new... Will also be reinforcing, so I might get hold of some decent gauge tube and add end pieces and gussets to help keep everything square... Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk |

So in-between times I thought I'd tackle this.... As usual, it was worse than it first looked. Obviously a moisture trap in the front wheel well where it's double-skinned...
Saw a video on YouTube of a japanese master at work on the same repair. Hanabusa...look him up Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk The nastiness has been cut away, and the good stuff weld-thru primered. Rainy season here so I'm not taking any chances (rainy season in ireland is any month with a vowel in the name) Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk Job for the next day is to replicate these.... Ok, I'm not great with a spot weld bit... Don't judge me! Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk |

Ha! I immediately recognize the wavy bodysaw cutting style. Wish that guy was doing vids 10 years ago when I started.
The things he is doing to the back of his coupe at the moment are what I should have done in the first place. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
