An update on progress so far. Front is mocked-up, the wings still need work (as does the bodywork in general - it's all in 2k epoxy), I painted the bonnet myself as a test to see if I should paint the whole car. The bumper is just sitting there, I need to build a bashbar to mount it.
Still waiting on the engine, but tackling the wiring. I ask myself if it was a good idea to combine the restoration with an engine swap and a wire tuck? Oh well, in for a penny; in for a pound

Could someone tell me what the hole just below the clutch master cylinder is for?

So I got a used alternator off ebay, advertised as needing a rebuild. New bearings and new brushes, fingers crossed it does the job when the time comes.

Also, I got to work on mounting the aftermarket front bumper. I think it's a Goodline copy; I got it second hand and in bits, so it's not perfect. The bar I made from some odds and ends I had lying around, 2 lengths of electrical conduit, and a piece of a tv aerial pole

So, apparently, Orange is the new black?

And finally the doors. There was a lot of work in these as I'd removed a lot of filler. A mate helped me with some of the metal-finishing, so the filler on the qarters was minimal. I did the doors myself, but I think they turned out alright, with just a thin skim of filler in places......

The left side door was worst with two long scraping dents from about a third the way along from the trailing end of the door. I think I've hid them well, but the proof will be when the paint has fully shrunk back.
Also, all needs to be flatted/buffed and polished

I'll leave them for a week or so to fully cure before hanging the doors & panels and doing the 'paint correction'

Great work, that's a lot of progress. I have learned how much time goes into paint prep this last yearm, and it's no small feat.

Thanks, and yes I've a lot of respect for the guys who do this full time. It's hard work as well as the knowledge and skill needed to get a good result

Orange can be a very good colour for the two-door AE86. AEU86 user Nomuken (Monkeymagic used to be his blogging name) owned one:

This was his sales thread:

And I think that Belgian that used to have a shed full of parts bought it from him.

Anyway, I love the colour! Thumbs up!
