|
|
Sunday 5th Aug (Day before Monday 6th Aug - 8/6 - geddit )! Allen turned up to my house (30 mins late) at 5.30am, to collect his AE86, which Adam (Feast Auto Export) and I had been working on all day Saturday, to prepare for this event (Clutch & hydraulics change, cam seals change, interior, etc)...
We were late, as we wanted to be at Nikko for 6.30am when they opened the gates, so that meant a full on fast drive all the way there. We made it from Urayasu to the circuit at Nikko in 70 minutes...
Tec Arts, one of Japan's top AE86 tuners (A family run business with a lot of passion for these cars) had organised the day. Techno Pro Spirits were there too (Builders of my engine ) with their N2 race car, as well as other very cool AE86's. We'd be hearing a lot of 4AGE's screaming all day long
Unfortunately Allen didn't wear his clutch in well and managed to burn it to a crisp on his first outing....(One side completely lost it's friction material) TP Spirits offered to lend me their loader truck, to drive the car back to their workshops, but no way was I going to miss this event!!
Then Tec Arts said they had a spare Racing clutch, which they'd fit for us. 2 hours later, all done. I love the service you can find in Japan !!
We had a blast!! Heat was tremendous. Despite having 2 hammocks under the pit roofs, in the shade - I still needed to drink around 5 litres of fluids all day. It rained heavily at Lunchtime, in between my heats on the track, but during that time I went off to get new tyres fitted by the local petrol station. By the time I came back it was all dry!
A lot of the heats were time attack, with 2 seperate AE86 drift groups. Sorry I couldn't take a lot of action pics, but when the drifting was on, I was out there too!
Awesome, awesome day. One of the best so far. The AE86 is alive and well in Japan.
Tec Art's awesome 4AGE turbo D1 car.
Tec Art's Starlet turbo... Made from parts lying around their workshop
Their other car:
Their FC3S - Which unfortunately suffered an engine failure on the track
More pics to follow shortly.
Miguel.

Newera's 2 AE86's:
New brakes. Now it stops as good as it goes !
Often seen this Hatchi Rokku stored in a car park close to our office at Urayasu. Was good to see it in action !
Work in progress! - Tec Art's mechanic under the car doing his thing & fitting a new Racing Gear Clutch
RIP:
Techno Pro Spirits AE86 N2 car... The quickest car there. In the final time attack / race you could see him just cruising to let the others have a chance to keep up! Love it!!!
This is the engine that inspired the one in my car
With a Tomei crank and 312 Degree cams, it makes around 235 bhp now.
Still runs std. ignition too and purrs at idle. They just go for function. No bullsh*t or extra weight. It's a full on race car.
With titanium one off exhaust manifold.

Another cool N2 AE86. 2nd fastest time attack car there.
Lots of other wicked AE86's there. Around 150 examples during the day. Here's some more.
Imagine these 4AGE engines with ITB's all screaming on the track
Another engine with the same internal spec as mine (Created by TP Spirits of course)... This was inside a mint standard bodied Levin AE86.... which was 3rd fastest time attack car (See pic of cars on the starting grid, above). Also the car that models for RS Watanabe wheels, here in Japan. Not used for drifting though, only fast road and time attack.

I have one question for you Miguel.
Say...how much would it cost if I come to Techno Pro Spirits with my old beloved car and want to have same engine as you have. (I'm sitting on my chair, so I won't fall down when you answer me). I really want to know

I think I paid somewhere around £10K including the Freedom ECU, KMS manifold and Toda exhaust system. Everything to make up the engine basically....Give or take a couple of £500. I don't count too closely what I spend over the years. See nothing positive in that at all. I love the car and driving it - nothing else is as much fun, so I spend my money on it. Probably £25K - £30K in all so far. I've no exact idea. Ignorance is bliss sometimes
Miguel.

I'll try to post more pics in future guys . Mostly I don't because we're usually very busy at work.
When we're not working, my colleague Allen & I attend quite a lot of AE86 and other drift events and 4 of our friends have them too.
Cheers
Miguel
