Hi
Is it possible to buy an oil pressure sensor that cuts
the ignition if pressure drops to low?

you might be able to set one up to work as an off switch, but why?,doesnt matter if you cut ignition and fuel,if the engine is rotating bearings can be damaged

The standard oil pressure switch "idiot light" found in many cars,
turns a light on when the oil pressure drops below the preset value.
It should be easy enough to use that signal to open a normally
closed relay.

Isn't that signal for low oil level rather than oil pressure?
koh: You are right it should cut ignition AND disengage clutch at same time - hard thing to do...

I guess the reason that cars do not have this in itself nice feature is that there are definitly situations on the road you can think of where if oil pressure drops you still might choose to push the throttle and kill your engine if you would otherwise kill yourself or another road user. Automatically disengaging the clutch seems totally scary to me...

The oil warning light is a pressure operated switch that takes the
place of the oil pressure gauge in more "sporting" model cars
It is sometimes considered to be an "Oil Low" light, since it usually
only starts to turn on when the oil level is so low that the pickup is
uncovered on hills or around corners
Shutting down a race car engine when the oil pressure drops is a
good idea. So is pushing in the clutch and pulling to the side of the
track But if you are leading the race and there is only half a
lap to go... maybe you don't want to ????
