Oh mate,
It sounds like you and i are in the same boat! I am also a high school student (I dont know how old being in your junior year makes you, but i am 16)
I have a genuine ae85, with a clapped out old 3au engine (1500cc carby). In the last few months in New Zealand i new regulation has been introduced saying that i cannot have visible exhaust smoke for 5 seconds or more. My car will never pass this. I am looking at swapping my 3au for a silvertop (or blacktop if i can afford one) and i assume that my conversion would be very similar to your's. So make sure you get working so i can copy you!
If someone can answer in one post so i dont Hijack this thread too much, the compression in my engine is very healthy and i do not think the piston rings are fried, but it has just recently gone through 3 litres of oil in 2 months without leaking. I know it is burning oil but i dont know how.[/u]

nztrueno,
Is that a law that they can give you a ticket on when a cop sees you at any given time or just at MOT?
If its just at MOT, make sure you show up with a warm engine:D

Or throw in some heavier oil to stop it from consuming so much of it temporarily.
It probably leaks some oil past the valve seals..

It is both. I am just lucky that no cops have spotted me, or my cloud of white/grey/black smoke (depends on the day) that fills an intersection after i leave it. MMmm I think i will just get a new 3au engine for the meantime. I can get one for about $100.
But no more about my car, this is Evfan's thread.

Any ideas yet when you'll be starting on the swap or have you desided to let that rest for awhile?

Well, after I looked at the vems loom I am thinkning that I am going to go with that, its about 300 dollars, and I can get a silvertop loom for 200, but with the vems loom I dont have to cut into the firewall for the distrubiter, which just makes life that much easier. So first I will have to come up with some money, then I will be able to continue with the swap.

Its just 300 for the loom right? Not including the VEMS unit itself...Count on around 1000$ to 1200$ for a complete VEMS setup. Support for the VEMS seems to better in Europe then the US. Consider a MegaSquirt..its less powerfull, but better supported at your end of the pond and a bit cheaper.

Well it definatly has been a long time since I have posted anything.
but a few things have changed. I have set up a stereo in my car now, Sony Xplod.
As well as I finally got enough money to get a megasquirt system. As soon as I buy it and put it together, test it, all that good stuff Im pulling my 86 in to do an engine swap.

Nah, I think people are just busy atm, its middle of the week you know:D
I have no idea if this is a good fuel pump. Doesn't really list the GT so you may need to do some alterations, then again, having an SR5 fuel tank you prolly need to do that anyways:D

255hp fuelpump might overpower the stock regulator..that would give you to high fuel pressure..I'm not 100% sure, so its worth researching..

He also happens to have a corolla as well that hes working on so we agreed to help each other in a scratch my back ill scratch yours way..
pics soon but its gonna really sweet to finally get the body straightened out and re painted a sapphire blue metal flake.
also for the silvertop I have someone who I worked on their truck is probably going to order the megasquirt equipment so that I can work on wiring that up and getting the silvertop into my car.

Just finished rerouting the waterlines inside the silvertop so that I dont have to touch that firewalled when combined with the EDIS system.

well its been forever, time for an update
I've been working pretty hard on this swap, what do you think?
the signatures on the motor are the formula D AE86 drifters
My friend and my dad have been working a lot with me to get this paint job done at the same time
Ridinslideways has hooked me up and did the actual paint shooting and helped a lot with the bodywork
were going to wet sand, buff, polish, and wax it tonite ill post pics when that is finished
