Found this link to a gallery which has a lot of photos of old racecars taken by the Chowini's racing team, mostly in 70s and early 80s. There are several AE86s and TA22 Celicas, but also some Datsuns and other cars. No words can describe the pure awesomeness of these cars. Very Happy

These links have a nice collection of photos and specs from different touring car series between 1963 and 1992. The AE86 was quite popular in the 1600cc class/division 1 so it can be seen quite often in photos between 1984 and 1988.

Does anyone have any other good links or photos of racecars from the same era as these? Please post them if you do! Smile Any photos from the original N2 series would be especially welcome as there seems to be very few online.

Wow, great link - thanks!

I found another one which is pretty interesting - the photos are mostly from the 1960s but there's some really exotic racecars there;

Hirofumi Makino's site has also a lot of content with photos but most of it is on the japanese side (see the 'What's new' -page for a nice list of articles).

Ok, let me bump this thread up a bit with this;

The complete restoration of Juha Kankkunen's 1985 Group B Celica. Absolutely amazing job!

I think you can almost call it a replica. Only some parts of the floorpan and interior are re-used. Shocked
But apart from that: respect! Worship

Not to sure about that type of restauration:

Of course, it looks perfect, a GREAT job was done and it seems to be nicely put in a museum where people can see it...

But then I wonder how this car would feel in the hands of a good racing driver. I'm no expert on this but I'm worried about the structural strength of a car that has been torn apart this far... It's not a VW beetle or 2CV where you can just put another body on the chassis.

Ok, time to dig up an old thread again. Smile Last saturday, there was a Historic Race Finland club event at the Alastaro Circuit and I spent the most of the day at the track, taking photos. I uploaded some of the better ones to our gallery here.

Here's a few examples;

Homebrew media > Oldschool racecars from the 70s and 80s

Homebrew media > Oldschool racecars from the 70s and 80s

The blue 2-door AE86 is actually racing in Roadsport B class, which is exactly the one I'm building my 3-door for. It took quite easily the pole position but in the race, finished second to the widebody Mk1 Escort due to a slight slip (there was some slight rain).

Nice! Thumbsup
I love those batmobiles! Drool
However this one does look a bit different at the rear... Perhaps a replica? Blonde question
