The hachiroku is a bit underpowered but with some nice suspension mods people can do amazing things with it. Check out the homebrew media and drifting sections on this forum for movies and you'll see what I mean. So I would suggest, if you really think the hachi is to underpowered to drift properly, maybe practice a bit more The driver in the end,is more important then the car...
Offcourse if you do competition, to keep up in speed with some of the big boys, well you're gonne come up short. Well unless your name is Ueo (search for that name on youtube:D)
As for engine tuning, look around in the technical and project sections of this forum. Plenty of work being done in that area. IanG's project thread is interesting, he's swapping an S2000 engine in his car. To much power really. Also PNut and TE71Corolla both have gone blacktop route, which is nice to, though TE71Corolla is now putting some nissan junkin there .
Also take a look at some of our australian friends threads, really some nice stuff going on there.
Finally, look back in the old history of this site for a project thread by some guy called Zax. He's now drifting a S13 but before that he was very active with stock warn down engined AE86 with just a few suspension mods. Some crazy movies showing a hachi roku can definately drift...
And there is plenty more

For the better or the worse - I am in the US and i do own a Trueno Hatchback. It's only natural that many US hachifans are going to join in, considering the main US forum club4ag is down, possibly for good...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/ for the aussies
http://www.dorikaze.ca/ for the cannucks [i believe it's not AE86-only, but there should still be a lot of resources]
http://www.irishcoupes.com/ for the Irish, again not really the same focus as AEU86, but hey...
http://www.toyotabg.net/ the Bulgarian Toyota portal, has an english-speaking section although not hugely populated. Has a few AE86 gurus, some of which post around here as well...
Mux, good point there, although i won't be a good subject for such comparisons. I moved to the States recently and managed to land in one of the most redneck areas ever! I've so far known only one more hachi in my area... not exactly packed, i'd say. Looking forward to fixing my own 20v; i hope i get it done in time for the autocross season, that way i might be able to get a better understanding of the crowd around here.

You Texan guys need your own regional section now boys?
Its ashame phpbb doesn't support layered subforums or we could split up the regionals a bit more
Seriously though, if there's enough of you guys in Texas to warrent your own forum talk to Banpei, plenty of options to get you guys started.

Hello, everyone.
Baraboo, Wisconsin, USA, here.
I got my car over a year ago, and it's been in storage for most of the time, since I just haven't had time to play with it. (other car projects need to be finished, so I can devote the proper time and effort to this one).

Holla to all the Oregon members! If you're in PDX give me a PM so we can do something. I'm really bored and alone out here, all I have are some buddies who have a little interest and thats it.
