Crankshaft of 4AC is lighter but weaker and you need to drill hole for the oil cooler pipes. Pistons are different.
But yes, the block itself is the same.

Oil cooler is optional.
4AC pistons possibly will work but resulting CR will be sub-9.

max doing it right you need a difrent crank. I would not make that cost. rather pop up the 4age head and search for a full 4age engine. Finding a crank and pisons makes it expensive. I would take the shot and just use the bigpor thead on the 4ac lower block.

On my 4AC block that was laying around we fited 4AFE head. The 4AC pistons, conrods and crank were left inside. The head was shaved a little bit.

Engine went in Celica AT180, and it pulls strong and sounds healthy, now for 2-3 000 km Smile

Major problems - I think - no.
Are you from USA ? On Ebay you can buy CHEAP new 4AGE pistons, get rings also and make 4AGE even with 4AC conrods and crank. It will work for everyday use.

Changed the topic title to something a little more meaningful:)

Max, you found a 4AG head but no 4AG block?

How about getting a 7AFE engine and putting the 4AG head on that? :

Okay, try to get some like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170098301558&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007
There are also Clevite brand pistons (proven good enough) and rings at similar prices. I hope you can buy them from South Africa ?

So you must find conrods only.

hi

i swapped my heads on my 4A Block the 4Age fits 100%

Swapped in Block :
4A crank to 4AGE crank
4A pistons to 4AGE std piston
4A Flywheel to 4AGE flywheel

so basically all in the block was upgraded <engine>

(1) i got a 4AGE distrubutor will it work as i will be running a weber carb
(2)can i use the norm 4A alternator

1. yes, but will work a bit different (get stable vacuum signal)
2. no because 4AGE alternator pulley is different (at least from 4AC version)

The pulley on alternator are not the same.
4AC alternator (at least the one I got on 4AC) is older construction, a bit larger and on the wrong place on the block than 4AGE (in AE82). I think that would be problems fitting 4AC alternator on 4AGE.
Rather get one from 4AGE (or 4AFE or 3SGE, they are the same)

On the pic; on the left 4AC (and the same on 2T), on the right 4AGE (the same one is on 4AFE and 3SGE)

still got my engine standing in my room going to drop in car when i get the free moment ...think i will try fitting the alternatoer on to see what goes
