So I am trying to help a friend find a setup for our AE86 Rally car.

I know that RWD cars are popular and many AE86s have been used in Rally events. I also know that there are Rally setups out there and that TRD used to offer Rally suspension (springs) etc for the AE86, but 20 yrs later, it can be difficult.

My friend has an AE86 HB which has been converted to rally, but is currently on the stock SR5 (base model) suspension and brakes (which will be getting upgraded soon.) I hope to act as navigator and we hope to be more competitive and getting the right suspension would greatly help.

This car primarily will be used in local Rally Cross (racing around a course of cones, usually in a field) and possibly Stage rally (sanctioned events using forestry roads or logging roads). The conditions may vary, but suspension is important, however i realize it can be very costly. But just finding a base to start from has been a challenge.

What I wold like to know is, does anyone have any current AE86 rally cars, and or suspension setups that would work for our car?

What we are needing are:
Spring MFG
Spring KG for F and R
Shocks F and R
Tires (conditions)
and any other relevant info that would help make our car competitive.
Even links for web sites that discuss setups.

We have used many resources here, but it was not nearly as popular as Europeans usage of this RWD platform.

Thanks

MOmo

In Finland many uses in AE86:
NEW original rear springs (someone cut off 1 -1,5 round).
TRD adjustable rear shocks
200LBS front springs (2.25" x 300mm)
Bilstein front shocks

I have tested all other, but not (yet) TRD shocks, now I have KONI´s on rear, on ice it was very good setup.

Do you have a model or part # for the Koni shocks?

Are you guys using these in the Snow? Dirt?

Thanks!

Anyone have a complete set of the Bilsteins they want to part with? My understanding is that they are not produced anymore yet make great rally shocks.

I believe the bilsteins are still easily available.. just dont know if they still sell the rally-specific ones..
I was just pm'ing a bit with filh, who drives rallies in belgium with his ae86 (and before in his TE72), you might do well asking him for pointers, he has loads of experience with the TE/AE chassis..

Those front shocks that I use are bought from finnish rallyshop two years ago, partnumber is F4-P36-0165-H0, I have to grind paint off from the shocks and put about 2cm aluminium piece on the bottom.

Here

I have read somewhere that Opel Ascona´s rear shocks fits also to the Corolla.
