Hi,

I've had GT4 for quite a while now and notice that I tend to play less and less (didn't do it that much to begin with..).

How about to keep things interesting we try and set out some sort of challenge?

Some fun propositions:
Fastest All Out lap of the Nordschleiffe in arcade mode. All cars allowed.
Fastest lap of Motorland in a Amuse R1 (seems to come closest to ae86 driving behaviour)
Etc.

Anyone up for that?

Just like you i dont play it that much anymore but i have a Nordschleiffe record time on my memorycard.
I wish i could have a laptime like this with my MR2 in real life.

I bought the game, past the licence tests (again, as i found them amusing),
bought myself three white Hachis, an NA tuned, a Turbo tuned and a supercharged as my car is and then... stopped playing...

Borred.

Work/family/girlfriend/friends leave me little time and to be honest I prefer spending it playing Pro Evolution Soccer! I love this game!

Hmm ok,

My fastest lap for the Nordschleiffe is a 6min 05s. Driving a Astra DTM with max.power, min.weight. All 4 wheels on the asphalt.

I know that it is possible to do the nordschleiffe in under 6minutes with this car, it just gets freaking impossible to achieve that without crashing. I was hoping that someone would do that and save the replay.

I usually do 2 laps a day, to busy with other things. Just like to try and keep a feel for the nordschleiffe, wish i could go more often in real life.

I will try to match your time No Hachi. Minje is 6:25 with the Woodone Supra (max power, min weight). I'll let you know tomorrow.

You can actually buy a supercharged now? Or can you upgrade to one? Shocked
(if I say something stupid, the last Gran Tourismo I played activly is GT2 Embarassed )

just like you can strap a turbo on a hachi, now you can put on a supercharger too. not all cars have this option availible (as not all cars have tubos availible)..

i still play gt4 quite alot. mostly drifting, and i think i have gotten pretty good. noneortheless my skill has improved since i started playing this game. gt4 was all new for me coz i started the game using DFP, and i have never b4 used a steering wheel for games. but months have passed and i think i got the hang of it.

I will post some vids i have edited of me drifting etc..

intrestingly after all that drifting and driving i have done w/ numerous cars, now i find it the most amusing drifting w/ a 170 hp hachi on "road" tires (u need to use ful throttle or the car wont slide.. this is how hachi also trains u of precision steering work, as the throttle must be slammed to the ground at all times =) )... and the 400 hp FC. : ) which is a really well balanced car - havent done much driving w/ the fd...

s2000 is in my opinion the best handling car in the game.

if anyone cars to chack this out...

48MB
http://viper.sunny-alps.com/apolan_dorifto.wmv

its my 4 minute long drift moovie from gt4. i know 50 mb for only 4 mins! i was a newbie in editing.. it was actually my first composite movie, and i have put several hours into it.. (only used win movie maker - basic / so no fancy filters, transitions etc.). though the clips are rather old. "my" fc only had some 250 hp back then - road tires.

hope ill have time for som more editing to bring you the ae86, r31, fc, and some more..

I personally dont play this game much any more, but I switched it on the other day and hammered my AE86 around El Capitain for a good 20 laps. Running 240bhp all NA, and a sorted chassis I managed a 1.49, and a 1.44 with nitrous activated all the way around.

Personally I think with some setting up the 86 is one of the best handling cars in the game, so very like real life.

Can anyone imporve on my time?

Cheers

James

I think it is easier to just use the cars that are available std in the arcade mode. Better even to just forget about different cars etc, but to just aim at fastest outright laptimes. Run whatever you want.
That way you reduce the number of possible combinations drastically.

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN

I was running a lap of the nordschleiffe earlier, with a split time that was 15 seconds faster then my previous lap of 6:08...that is ALWAYS the time you crash out at the end of the lap..damn frustrating!

PS managed to shave one second of of my laptime. New best is 6'04.245. Still have an off track excursion in that lap and the Hatzenbach section went very poorly.
Fastest lap in a bone stock Amuse R1: 7'44.15

@Nohachi: How about Swedenkreuz, what line do you take there in the game?

After reading this thread I cleaned the dust of my PS2 and booted up GT4 just to be curious what time i would drive in an stock amuse s2000 r1 on the nordschleife. I first drove 9.02 and my second lap was 8.35, not too bad I think.(my target is beating Nohachi`s 7.44 now Evil or Very Mad )

This is what makes this online challenge interesting, you`re racing against other people.

I was thinking, maybe we could make a few challenges?
like
-marking the fastest lap on the nordschleife in arcade mode, any car allowed
-driving the fastest lap on tsukuba with a hachi with standard power and tires but with all other options allowed.

Maybe 3 challenges are enough to bring some fun variation in it if youre getting tired of slamming in the wall halfway the nordschleife so you have to start over again to get a supertime.

Maybe someone else also has suggestions, I´m going to watch best motoring international 26 Worship now on the xbox Wink

@Senna, I try and take the scuderia line. Its not that hard a corner in the Astra, but taking it full throttle in the S2000 is a challenge. In the astra its flat out, with the S2000 i usually blip the brakes for just a fraction of a second to get the car to turn in.
The real challenge for me is consistently going flat out through flugplatz. In the Astra there is only one line that allows you to do that.

@Wouter, i'll try and drive the hachi @ tsukuba. I haven't really played the game yet, so I'm stuck with a stock car probably. Doesn't matter, I'll see what i can manage.

@Mr.Monster: How can you hate that track! Its the single most beautifull piece of asphalt in the world.

Tried the Nordschleiffe-Astra DTM combo yesterday. I played for an hour, ended up with 6:09. I only have one small off-track (but bounced right back), but I'm slow on the technical part (after Karussel). I'll see if I can improve today.

I also lapped the Nissan R92CP in 5:35 with huge room for improvement. But it's really tiresome car to drive anywhere near thelimit in the narrow Nordschleiffe, esp the technical part.

Nordschleife is so great because there always is room for improvement. w/ so many different cornerrs and many of these corners having multiple racing lines. some are faster for some cars, others may work better w/ different cars/setups.

and the technical part is sooo touge. =)

Wow Dorito, you're getting real fast real soon. I'm usually pretty good at the technical section, so I'm very curious to the lines you take in the other sections. usually its just a lot of very small improvements that add up.

NoHachi: I'm very good at the first part (until Flugplatz). I line up on the left, let off the gas (5th gear) to avoid take off and slam on the gas as soon as it settles. Then it's full throttle through Flugplatz (idealy without steering corrections) until Aremburg.
Then again full speed until Adenauer, line up to the right on the uphill, shift down to 5th, full throttle through the first left hander, shift to 4th pinch the brakes and go 70% throttle through the righthander (I think its Adenauer). Sometimes I mess up the first left and that can cost up to 10" or more if I spin.
Next tricky bit is Metzgesfeld, which I choose to take in less than 100% cause if you mess up on the exit, it's armco time.
The trickiest bit for me is Miss-Hit-Miss, which I have never taken properly (lack of steering wheel makes this nearly impossible.
Also important is Bergwerk, which can make a difference of 4-5" at the braking point for Steilstrecke.

The its the Karussell and my problems start Stupid

I use 2nd gear only twice for a second and that's at the entry of Wehrseifen and the entry of Karussell. Then it's immediately 3rd gear to avoid wheelspin at the exit.

I still fuck up a lot though, since I try to reach Karussell as fast as possible, knowing my weakness at the techynical part (I still haven't memorised all of it). I'll see what happens tonight. Maybe I'll set up the camera to video my runs, if that's at all possible.

I just did 1.41 and something w/ stock R1 and sport-soft tires. i could have easily gone some 5 seconds faster.. still a lot of room to ga fastere. but thats how nur is.. sometimes you go faste as hell through some sections but there's still a lot of asphalt left to fuck the time up..

are we supposed to go on sports-medium tires???

No, you can use the softest available for the car in arcademode and you can also add the 20% extra power and subtract the 10% in weight.

7:41 looks pretty fast btw Smile

@Apolan: nice time! Looking at my best sector times, a sub40 sec lap should be possible. And indeed with the R1 its drifting all the way!

@Dorito: There are a few points where we can learn from each other. Flugplatz is flatout, no lifting or anything. The only way to do this is to stay as far to the left side of the track before the jump. Any deviation from this and the car will get unsettled after the jump, making turn-in impossible.
Basically everything from Hocheichen untill Aremberg is flat out.

I never tried the first lefthander after Fuchsrohre flatout. I'll have to try that, thanks! I do know that you have to go over the curbstones there.

Miss-hitt-miss is not that difficult, could probably shave some time there though.

I still use automatic mode all the time, so I lose quite some time with wheelspin.

The thing I like about the nordschleiffe is that it is impossible to drive with the traction and stability controlls on. You really need to set car up with slight drifts for a fast time.

Flug platz is the first jump after initial downhill right? whenever i tried to go to the far left b4 a jump, the car jumped sideways, and after landing the inertia set my car into a spin.. so i usually go almost in the middle, and a little throttle cut into the right, just to turn the car better. than its all full throttle until the fast lefthander b4 the hard right in 2nd. sorry i dont know the names.

i use Driving force pro (900' degs), no assists, manual.. after 4 or so months i got the hang of it so i feel quite at home w/ DFP. tnx to all that drifting hehe.

and people who say gt4 cant be drifted are just not trying hard enough. and i know it is really depressing after trying soo hard, and you cant get the car to go as you wish.. practise does wonders.

i will attempt 7:35 w/ r1 tommorow.
