I should be up loading photos that show huge amounts of progress to this project but I have been doing other things lately and almost forgot about this thing.
Anyhow I have finished the wiring to the stage where it winds over on the starter , with oil and fuel pressure , and all other electrical things working except for the engine management wiring, that will be next.
Today I tacked my exhaust system together and will get it tig welded tomorrow, looks like it could be a noisy beast!

Also while I was hunting around on the net one day I found a set of these TRD Tosco rims, so had to have them!

Nice, thats how Ill be doing mine too. What size did you go? Im planning stepped 2.25 > 2.5

Its great as that design keeps the car road legal for targa events etc Smile

I am using 2 1/2 inch stainless for a start and if this doesn't work well ,I will try 3 inch.

Ah ok, did you simulate the resonance, velocity and back pressure of going straight to a 2.5" system? You didnt see the need to step it up at all?

No just took the approach that if it doesn't work I'll build another system that may work !

I have good results with 2½ inch to the middel of the car and then step down too 2inch the rest of the way. I gain 8-10hp on my 174hp 20v with that solution, insted of 2½inch all the way. Its an old rallytrick.
Actually its because the gas gets colder at the end of the exhaust and then a smaler pipe will give a better flow.

But since you have such a short exhaust, I don't think it matters. I belive this engine will pull out 215hp+ even with a banana in the exhaust :wink:

A smaller pipe does not get better flow, it increases the velocity of the gas because the pipe is smaller, following that logic you would use the smallest pipe possible. The issue is that the gasses cool, and get more dense, and slow down, and you want zero backpressure (while allowing scavenging). Because the gas is more dense and slower, you need a bigger pipe to account for the reduced capacity, the boundary layer thickness in a small pipe again reduces flow. You want a megaphone type approach, increasing in size...

Hi there
I only removed the foam temporarily while I was cutting and drilling holes in the plastic to fit the sender unit so no small bits of plastic would end up in my fuel supply later on , I reshaped the foam and cut it around the fuel sender , and refitted it .
