cool car. the only one thing that i don't like, are those ugly fenders

Somehow I don't think that I will be driving this around town when it is finished as it wont be that street able, but with a detuned engine it may happen. This engine is straight from a Atlantic DB4 single seater so will be interesting to find where it's power is , I imagine it will be in the 6 - 10k rev range .
I prefer to keep my fast driving to the track , so this is where i will start to sort this car when finished . The N2 kit some like it and others don't , luckily I do .

Another weekend spent plumbing things up again , well I spent most of the day finding things that I had put somewhere the weekend before ! in the end I gave up !!

The diff cooler now in place

The diff housing has a new coat of paint after being sandblasted , just needs a final wash out and it can be installed

May spend next weekend sorting parts and finding things before wasting another day or two looking for parts Smile

I'd guess it would be very top endy 8-10k! You'd be glad you have short gearing with the TRD Gear-set and 5.1 final drive Wink not sure if you mentioned earlier, but have you have the engine on a dyno? would be cool to see the torque and power characteristics of the Atlantic motor versus convetionally tuned 4AG.
You had the engine pulled down and rebuilt so are you aware of the internal specs? Could you reiterate cams duration/lift, pistons and valves size, comp ratio, throttles diam etc. I'm sure many others out there would be craving details on what makes the Formula Atlantic tick Big Grin

edit: I must be going blind :E paraphrased from page 1.

You got it right! the problem with such high lift cams and an engine that sits around a lot is the chance of metal pickup from the cam lobe and valve bucket , so it will be out with the oil can before starting , i don't think this is a car to start every five minutes to drive to the store . Smile
I have made a little progress in the last couple of weeks , but have had a bit of a change of direction on a couple of items , so a bit of work will be undone, that's the problem when you continually develop something halfway through your build. Banging head
I have managed to source a TRD injection intake for this so that means a change of fuel lines, pump , and pressure regulator .Also while I'm at it I have changed all the dash set up that I was building to a Stack dash , and the dash won't look like the inside of an airplane .
I am also looking to change the seat to a head restraint seat as there is no compromise for me on safety .So a few steps forward then a few backwards on progress .

so the 16 bumps on the valve cover are like oil squirters for oil the cams before starting it ?

Yeah so you manually remove each cap screw and use an oil can , this is how the engine came from the swift DB4.

This weekend I managed to fit the gearbox
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

Also here is the reduction starter that I have made an adapter plate to fit ,it is a 1KW reduction type , this is the same as I use in my Rally car , plenty of cranking power

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

Installed the Lexan windows as well and the rest of the window trims , so the body work is coming along.
This is the Stack dash , it replaces the need for all the other gauges , so it will fit in the original dash space , along with the carbon fiber standard shape dash that is being made at the moment .
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

I had the car on the corner weights as well and I am well on my target for a low 800kg car , with all the bits to finish it ,inside the car , and without the wiring loom it is at 789kgs now .(dry ,no oil or fuel) So my target is around 810 kg , so should have good power to weight .

nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
There is nothing like making a few steps forward then changing your mind and going backwards , so off came the carbs ,
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

A quick look inside the inlet cave !
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

and then replace them with these ,
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,]

the idea of trying to tune a 12.9 :1 compresion engine on pump gas has prompted me to go for injection with engine management . I will keep the carbs in the corner so i can go back to them as the N2 cars originally ran these as well.

nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
Hey there!

I'm new here because i googled ae86 n2, and this link came up. I love the build! I am in sheer envy. In regards to the little oil squirters on the cam covers, would an accumulator setup eliminate the need to remove all those plugs and oil each individual lobe?
http://www.club4ag.com/pictures/contribu..._small.jpg
That is my car. I am going to convert it into a full out gt-3/gt-u car and this car will go through a lot of the things that yours has gone through. The only stumper i have a problem with is to locate a reliable source for the TRD N2 body kit. This car is going to house some 10 inch Goodyear racing slicks on the standard 15 x 7 wheels the race class allows. The TRD flares would be best suited to this application. Might I ask, where did you get your kit? Sorry, you probably get asked this a million times a day.
