AE86 LSD Questions.
Is it true that you have to shorten non lsd axles if you want to fit an lsd head.
Diff in question is AE86, non lsd, Kouki(facelift)

My next question is whether or not my diff is in fact a kouki diff.
Here are some pics of an axle i removed tonight. From the information I have found so far it seems it is a facelift model.
Before you tell me to check the frame number or chassis.......this diff is not originally from my car.
I need to know soon so I can order a cusco lsd from speed-inc!

I know that kouki and zenki axels are diferent, so when fitting a new diff you must keep in mind wicth one you choose. But just by lookink I cant really tell the diferences.

I´ve seen too many people fit in a new diff and never heard about modifying anithing at all.

What you mean with "this diff is not originally from my car"? Did you replace the entire rear "bridge" or just the diff or inner axels?

Check the diff for a part number.

In my case my model is kouki but the axles were zenki... someone must have switched them I think.... Go to club4g.com and in the tech reference there are the differences between the halfshafts, be sure that your halfshafts are zenki or kouki before buying the LSD!

I installed a TOMEI and I know that for TOMEI and KAAZ you don't need to cut the halfshafts but I've "heard" that you need to do it for the TRD LSDs (someone that has one may confirm his.. or not). about cusco I don't know, why not send them an email?

Cheers

The axle shortening (7mm) is required when you put LSD into open diff. At least this was the Club4AG information - check it on their site.

if you look at the pics of mine, they dont have the step in them that the zenki ones do just before the spline so am i to assume they are kouki?

This is something I put together while researching what diff to buy. I ended up going with a Kaaz 2-way. Here's the info I found out about the axles.
