UK (Japan) Import and the RDW
Hi guys

I am in the process of buying a UK registerd AE86 that orginally was imported from Japan. I want to put the car on Dutch plates, do I need to just get a APK or do I have to pay for the 1000 Euro RDW inspection?
Anybody knows how this should be done??

I think you'll only need the apk. The 1000 euro thing is for cars that haven't been registered in europe yet if I'm not mistaken. Seeing how yours already has uk plates it's registered in europe already so it'll only need apk plus bpm, if any is left, mind you, the apk needs to be done at an rdw station though but that's kind of logical.

you get the car, drive/trailer it to an RDW station, let it check for legislation (NO APK, just importcheck), get a dutch set of papers(think you can only do that if your dutch) and then make a set of plates. Then you can have it checked for the APK.

You can do an APK too at the RDW, at the same time with importcheck, but they are more strict then needed (they failed an Citroen with a new, on original holes spotwelded sill, because the welds were too far apart Banging head )

Why not Dutch? Tongue

They aren't always that strict, like any other APK station it depends on the man and its mood. (sex or no sex last night?).
I've seen imports where they only check the chassiscode.

Allin, the check, including papers, bpm, mot etc. it will be around 400-500 euros for an AE.

Something like:
-125 import and registration (not sure if papers are included).
-25 mot
-250-350 for bpm

Thanks for the info guys Thumbs up!
no Dutch because my Dutch writing sucks as I have lived abroad for most of my life!

So, it is 100% correct, no 1000 euro inspection is needed? Anybody has a number I can call at the RDW to confirm this?

Also does the car need to be registerd in the UK for a while before it can be brought across without the 1000 euro inspection or is a few months ok? I think the car has only been registerd in the UK for 4 months since it came from JapanConfused

I think the expensive inspection is only for cars that were never sold over here.. hatchback ae86 we're sold even in holland (about 4 or 5), so it's likely that it wont need a full inspection.

Isn't that for cars that don't have a european type approval (europese typegoedkeuring, weet niet hoe dat in het engels heet)?

Mine is a coupe (again, my 3rd one) so more than 4 or 5 were sold but it does not have a European Certificate of Conformaty (CoC); you only get a CoC for cars sold for the European market. Banging head
I do not know if the MOT in the UK makes it a car with EU type approval, does it?
What did the guy with the white RHD levin from the UK (Japan) do? Or guys that buy UK registerd Skylines and then bring them to Holland?
