Quaife QSR - Installation & manual steering info
Jimmi either you go to the gym or you could ask Martin Bjerre... He used a rack from an old Carina and an electric servo from a MR2 I think. It wasn't easy but it worked Smile

Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Wink

Quaife QSR - Installation & manual steering info
Jimmi The Kid Wrote:When you ad the steering quickeners, the steering wheel will be lighter to turn right? But that will also mean, you got to turn the sterring wheel a lot more, to get the same angel, right? Thats not good. Sad
I fitted the QSR because I want a tighter and more direct steering, but now, I just getting tired in my thin arms, Big Grin

I meant you could add the quickener to a POWERSTEERING equipped vehicle to get quicker response, while having easier steering.

But with the loss of road feel & achievable angle.

Mayby I should work out Big Grin

This quickener is good idea, but not the best.
I have found some drawing of the Avensis power steering motor and its not impossible. Fitting the car is not a problem - I think, its just metalwork and will just take some time.

Great thread on so many ae86 forums

But one question : what is the ratio of the rack ? with this gear set fitted

i am guessing that the NON powersteering racks you have there are the same as ones here

AE86 : 16 : 1

also i have looked at the following for replacing it

SW20{MR2} : 16.6 : 1 , 2.7 in SW20{MR2}

MR-S{MR2} : 13.6 : 1 but the rack is front mounted so would require a gearbox to reverse direction , fitted in a AE86 with its shorted arms is gives 2.2 turns from 2.6 in the MR-S

s13/240sx : ???? No doubt No Hachi will know

s14 : 17.49 : 1

Late EVO : 13 : 1 still trying to get hold of a rack for measurements

EVO CT9A RS RHD 11.8 : 1

MR2 is a manual powersteering rack with a external electric powersteering pump as per MR-S as well. There very unreliable over here and cannot supply the pressure to keep up with going from full lock one direction to the other.

I don't have pictures at this time and I don't know how they did it, but I know the whole thing was under 400 EUR. I'll try to get some pics.
