Yeah - it blew up a few weeks ago at a Donington Park trackday.

The engine is in bits and we know what happened (see the build thread).

I am hopefully going to have BenR build me up a fresh high-spec small port engine with all the right bits. I'll re-use my thottle bodies but the Freedom computer will be coming off the car (as good as it is *sob*) and replaced with something easier to work with here in the UK. I hope for about 180bhp when I'm done which I think should do the trick nicely.

Although it doesn't look that comfortable as a daily car. But I guess as long as it moves you around the interior would do fine. Wink
Is your passenger seat still an original seat? It looks very different from the european seats. Undecided

It's not bad as a daily user/bruiser :wink:
The passenger seat's the original, but it's to be removed today, as I have two nearly new Bride Exas III matching seats in red ready to go in, complete with seat rails. Those and some/all of the interior. Not going to remove the sound deadening, as I'd rather have comfort to my ear drums than save 20kg in sound deadening, which will only be worth a couple of horses anyways Smile Might even invest in a decent set of speakers and a used removable Alpine Subwoofer, so I have a sound system to listen to on long trips. Kinda making it in the mould of Keichi Tsuchiya's white street prepared TRD Trueno, rather than a totally stripped out race car Smile Smile

Spent more than I sold my 2001 S2000 for (sold in Japan, not UK) so far, but it's completed aside from the interior, which will be sorted soon. Toying with the idea of a carbon leather retrim, or a Bride cloth retrim, later - which would finish it nicely Smile

It's a lot more special than a mildly modified S2000 anyways and as I plan to keep it for life as the 4th and last AE86 I own, I'm not too bothered about the expense. In 2 years I figure wouldn't know where I'd spent the cash anyway otherwise, so at least I'll have something to show for the money spent and someday I can give it to one of my Children, but ONLY if they have a passion for cars like this...

I enjoyed the S2000 a lot and kinda miss it still, but the AE86 is more than making up for that. I've had a passion for AE86's for going on 10 years, this is the culmination of an ambition that's been burning inside for a while.

I know my enthusiasm's probably over the top and looks like gloating, but I'm just very, very glad I finally did it rather than keep dreaming about it. It's hard to describe how challenging and fun this car is to drive on a racetrack, except to say it's the most fun car I've been behind the wheel of including very tuned GT-R's, RX-7's, Supras, DC5's, Evo's and the like.

It's really taking shape now...

The restrictive Jubiride K&N style filters have come off and the trumpets are back on again. Have lowered the front of the car around 15mm - to give more bite to the front wheels and help transfer weight from the back when braking..

Inside, I've put the carpet for the front part of the interior back in and refitted the centre console, together with a carbon leather gaiter and an ARC sperical titanium knob. Interior's looking spartan at the back, but cool at the front. The car sounds quieter, with no noticable difference in weight - The rear of the car remains completely stripped aside from the (This at the rear) sound proofing.

I've bought some carbon fibre with which to re-cover my cordroy stylee door inserts.....

Also waiting for the Bride seat rails to arrive so I can change the seats.. .any day now.... Big Grin

I've just spent the early evening finishing making up some brackets in carbon fibre and alloy to fit a neat retracting number plate kit....Also made some ducting for the oil cooler, in carbon fibre.

The number plate's easily visible almost flush against the mesh in the bumper recess, but when the car hits around 40 mph, the plate swings to the horizontal and is upside down...Slow the car down and it comes back into full view. It's all sealed behind the mesh and ducting and not really accessible.
No way anybody's going to realise what it does just by looking at it Big Grin Big Grin

I've shrouded the underside of the radiator too, with some old carbon sheet. On top there's now a Laile alloy radiator shroud too. Aside from packing some foam into the sides, it's all set for maximum cooling when being driven hard.
this week, we're waiting for a new Carbon J-Blood bonnet and a new steering wheel boss, to which I'll fit a new - quick release steering wheel attachment.

Miguel - when you have a moment could you figure out costs for a few things for me.

1 Top ally radiator shroud (unless anyone has dimensions/pattern I can make one myself)
2. A drop vented carbon levin bonnet.
