Help needed pls before POS Hatchi is sent to the USSR.
Hiya guys.

I was gonna have my car checked for the danish MOT equivalent, but apparently it's not worth it to use 80€ on that since it won't pass... Crap.

So... It's probably gonna go on a little trip to Poland to get fixed up (Much too expensive here in .dk). The main problem is rust on the bottom of it, but there's also lots of little problems like the wipers scratching on the metal plate below the windscreen.

Now, I need you guys to help me out a bit here. I want to make a list of "extra" stuff I might as well get done at the same time, like stiffer bushings, etc.

This is my list so far:
* Rust fixed everywhere.
* Paint stripped off, acid bath + zinc bath. Alternately, super mofo anti-rust primer.
* Sunroof needs to fuck off. Black leather rooflining.
* Sunvisors needs to get fixed up.
* Black paint all over (no panda, sorry. Maybe the next hatchi ;-) )
* Heater fixed (can't select hot/cold) and cleaned.
* Bottom 3 heating strips in back winscreen fixed.
* New suspension (stock? semi-sport? suggestions?)
* Gearbox renovated
* New front brake discs and pads (Ferodo pads?)
* New/stiffer suspension bushings (where to get?)
* Front seats needs to be fixed up a little bit + better lumbar support.
* Stiffening welds to the chassis (If I can find someone competent (howto?))
* One engine mount probably gone bad.
* ...

Please add your suggestions. Hurray! Respect!
It's not certain that everything will get done (there's that little annoying detail called money), but I have to make a wishlist to get a quote :wink:

You are going to do all that stuff in Poland?? Dumb question
I think your suspension depends on what your taste is and what purpose you are going to use the hachi for. Daily driver I'd suggest not to switch over to circuit suspension. Wink

Hopefully. Fixing cars is much too expensive here. Alledgedly, in Poland, you can get the same for 7000€ that you in Denmark would pay 25000€ for... Obviously depends on the work/parts ratio as parts probably aren't much cheaper.

Of course. I wouldn't want it to be too much harder, but maybe a little firmer ;-)

Where exactly will the car be repaired? There are some Hachi enthusiasts over here, maybe somebody could help? In Warsaw there is a company that specialises in Bilstein suspensions. They offer setting up, mounting, or sometimes even modyfying some of the B6 kits (in some cases it is possible to make it a B8, or even a B14).

Banpei, the labour costs in PL are much lower than over at your place. The only problem is to get the neccesary parts, but since Yonzie lives in Denmark, it shouldn't be difficult for him to find these bits. Also, the standard of modified cars is getting higher and higher.

Ahhh, VTEC. All the lag, none of the turbo. It's like waiting for bad sex.

I know people here in Greece that in the weekends pass the borders and go to Albania to fix their cars. Service guys there keep their stores open all weekend so greeks go there.
So they make some money and greeks save some money

Darkstar:
No clue. There are some companies specializing in sending cars to Poland to get fixed since it's extremely easy as a foreigner that don't understand Polish to get crap work at inflated prices. These companies are based in Poland and handle everything for you. It obviously costs a bit more, but I can sleep well at night knowing that my car gets fixed properly (and if it doesn't, I can take them to court in Denmark).
The Bilstein thing sounds good, but it probably won't be now. The GF wants to go see the KZ camps some time though, so it might happen.

Noone has ideas for stuff to get checked/done except what I have on my list? Undecided

EDIT: Right, forgot. Someone got their old MG completely renovated. The Polish company had trouble sourcing a new one, so they made one from scratch in order to meet the deadline Huh All for the same agreed price (50k dkk instead of the 200k dkk it would have cost in Denmark) Hurray!

Be a bit careful there though, there are masters living there that do a perfect job, but there are also assholes out there.

A mate of mine once brought a old classic (I think an old peugeot) there and when it came back it looked smashing. On closer inspection though it turned out some rusted parts weren't replaced by new metal, BUT MY FREAKING PAPER! Talk about being conned out of your money...

Still I've heard from a number of people that have had alot of success fixing up their car this way.

What mux wrote is 100% true. Even my dad got fucked up (sorry for the word) when he was restoring his classic Benz. The car looks really good now, but truly, you need to know a lot of people not to get tricked.

Which is exactly the reason I will be using a middleman so that I can take them to court or the police in case something's not right.
