I can't remember Confused
Do the flywheel holes only line up in one position on the crankshaft ?

There are eight holes in a circle... you can put it on any way you like Smile

Some people say you should match mark the flywheel to the crankshaft.
But IMHO, if the flywheel has been balanced, and the crankshaft has been
balanced, I don't see that there is a need for match marking. I didn't do
it on mine, and have yet to see any problem. Most important thing is to
torque the bolts using the correct tightening pattern.

Yes it was the balance question really and I wonder if Toyota balanced everything together as a unit or balanced individual items separately ?

Difficult to conceive the factory balancing the parts bolted together, and
then taking them apart to assemble the engine. I see balance divots on
the crankshaft and on the flywheel, so I think you can assume they are
balanced by their respective manufacturers. And I'm sure if they had to
go together one particular way, there would be a locating dowel.

Good point about respective manufacturers and I kind of assumed that Toyota would do everything in house but of course you are right in what you are saying, parts will be outsourced.
It all makes perfect sense and I will go ahead and fit my flywheel without
worry Smile

Thanks Jondee Thumbs up!

There's balancing and then there is balancing. My experience so far showed that factory parts are quite unbalanced for my taste. I.e. a few grams whereas the parts I had balanced are within tiny fractions of a gram.
