AE86 gearbox??
Looking at getting a change to my knackered gearbox, been looking at changing to the sierra box.

Has anyone done this to their own car or know of anyone that has done this to any other car and what the strength of the box is like compared to the T50?

Or does anyone know of any good T50 boxes on the market just now?

As I understood the Sierra box is one of the most widely used gearboxes for uprating any car. But I haven't heard anybody about swapping one inside a hachi though.

I have use a Escort´s "big" gearbox in 2T-G with aluminium middleplate between gearbox and 2T-bellhousing.
I used a 2T`s flywheel, Escort´s clutchplate and 2T-clucth cover.
I can take a pictuer from it, I still have it.

I have just heard of this uprate not long back and was curious if anyone else had actually done this. My gearbox is beyond repair and this seems like the only option i have at the present time. Fensport sell a bellhousing for connecting it to the 4-AGE and the uprated clutch, i've managed to find a place that sells re-conditioned 1600 boxes as well.

Hi, I am running a sierra type 9 'box.
Here is some info:
A bellhousing is available, Raw engineering do one but it is expensive and is likely to need modification. An RM sport one is what you need, I believe this can be used with both sizes of flywheel but is worth checking.
I know where a used RM bellhousing is for sale.
You will need to fit a different sized spigot bearing to the crank, use Raw engineering for this.
Use a Toyota clutch cover and an MGB clutch plate (200mm)
A modification will need to be done to the release bearing, boring out the Toyota one I think.
You will also need to modify the rear gearbox mount. I believe Gartrac can do this for you.
The propshaft will need to be fitted with a Ford end to fit the gearbox, this will mean a modified prop.
The gearlever hole will need a slight mod.

Is it worth it ? Type 9 gearboxes are ten a penny and quite strong. The only downside is that first gear is a little short in my opinion. I have a new Quaife type 9 ready to fit.......
2.8 capri boxes have better ratios but the input shaft is too long, this can be shortened quite easily.
