AE85 vs. AE86
2 Sumup; difference between AE85 and AE86 is everything except the chasis and major parts of sunspension (and maybe the gearbox/tranny).

If you don't have or get one AE86 with very bad bodywork to use for parts conversion is extremly hard..

AE85 vs. AE86
There are alot of differences between ae85 and ae86! Alot! Especially if your thinking about converting it to ae86. It will cost heaps! Im doing it at the moment and have found it hard to find so many of the parts to complete the conversion, not to mention the cost. So far i could have bought two ae86's with what ive spent. If I could offer you any advice it would be to hold off and save your money for a real ae86. I promise that you would be better off.

I couldn't agree with this more. The AE86 and AE85 may look the same from outside in the street but everything about them are completely different. If you're planning on doing a GZE swap then go for an AE86 first. The T50 (AE86) transmission is just about capable of dealing with a GZE, i'd hate to think what a AE85 transmission would go through. Not to mention the brakes would have trouble dealing with the extra power and the suspension. So, yeah, go for an AE86 mate it would be a far wiser option.

AE85 vs. AE86
Thanks for the advice guys! I don't want to waste 3,5k euro's, so I think I'll wait for a real AE86. That's what I was looking for from the beginning, so I guess I can wait a while longer.

Puh, to think I almost threw my money on a look-a-like Confused

Thanks again folks! Thumbs up!

EDIT: Anyone know of a real AE86 for sale? Tongue

Its funny. You think that you'll save alot buying an AE85 and "just do a cheap conversion". "There is no such thing!". By the time you get everything you need you could have probably bought the 86 that inspired you in the first place.
Super good choice to wait and get a REAL one.
Although, in saying that there is alot to be gained by building your own. Its real character building stuff! Tongue

I only half agree with that: if the price of the car were a lot lower (1500 euros for example) than this it might have been worth the effort. Smile

However since you were already paying the amount of money you normally would have paid for an AE86 with an okay body it would have been a waste of money. Wink
