4age rally cams
hi guys;

i have come across 2 rally camshafts for a 4age 16v engine that i got from a mate years ago he had tried them in his rally ae86 but could not get the engine to run right on them

the cams have no part numbers stamped on them
but the the have 8.5 gpa stamped on the rear face of each cam
i take it that this refers to lift what is the best way to work out duration

i am currenty rebuilding a silver over graphite uk car with 72.000 miles for the road and planning on using a martelus R1 4 branch and system

is it possible to run these cams with std engine with some head work/porting and polished

thanks john

Lift's not big problem, duration can be. Everything above 264 is hard to run on stock ECU.
Beside, every modification will make difference between what engine needs and what stock ECU commands.

So.... depends what you want from engine, if you push it to hard, you will need standalone ECU (great and expensive) or piggyback (not so great, similary expensive).

Duration can be measured, but you can visually compare them to similar, you will get idea if they are low, medium or high duration cams.

8.5mm is fine with standard head, you can get 264's with this amount of lift.

1985 Sprinter Trueno GT Apex
2013 GT86 Miltek Exhaust, Injen Induction.

8.5 works on standard head, but NOT standard valve springs! You will need to upgrade valve springs if the lift is over 8.2mm

Here are some end views of camshafts, with the durations labeled under them.

I used TRD springs (90501-AE851)... 54#s @ the seat, and 144#s @ .400 lift

Toda springs are good to 10mm of lift, and I'm not sure about HKS springs. I do not know the #s of the Toda, or the HKS springs

Did a few minutes research and for some reason everyone wants a set of testicles(over $500 per set) for the TRD springs. The TODA springs sell for about $170 for the set. HKS are similarly priced to the Toda springs

hKS should be good for the lift, as same as their cams - don't know about force. You can ask here http://www.perfectrun.jp for prices.
