If you're thinking of importing an AE86 into the USA from Japan, it's worth looking into all the formalities first.

I know that it's particularly difficult for Californians, due to the emissions rules. Another bonus point is that USDM cars are left hand drive.

I'd recommend waiting till you get home and look to buy there.
