HOLA!!!
Happy holidays people. Neils, i got your email but i hope this will answer your questions. To hit 160bhp with the engine in near std trim, especially with the low static CR, you need to address a few key areas. 1) Induction. You will need to junk the TVIS, not becuse it is restrictive, but because it is ineffective and just gets in the way. Ideally you want to run throttle bodies or carbs, but if you must stay with the OE inlet manfold then you will want to modify it at least for better flow. 2) Cylinder head. These are very bad in std trim, and because of this, people tend to have to run more camshaft than is really needed to sustain high rpm VE efficiency to make decent HP numbers. Increase the efficiency of the cylinder head and you wont have to run asmuch camshaft as others, this retaining torque aswell. The bonus is that when the head is off aswell, you can use it to bump up the CR without having to modify or change the pistons, but then you will be limited to lift at TDC and will have to double check piston/valve clearance on the timing you WILL be running, you cannot swing the cams around wihtout checking clearance if you bring the cam bearing bores closer to the block deck face. 3) Camshaft. If your running std pistons and springs, then you are limited to lift. And the trend nowadays is to run asmuch lift as you can, not because the port flows more at high lifts (because a port will reach a lift point where it flows nore more even if you lift higher), but due to the nature of the cam lobe, it will spend proportionally more time at a higher lift value thus allowing more air to pass. For 160bhp you dont have to run too much duration, and you wont have to run too much seat poundage so std springs can be used. But for me to reccomend a profile, you MUST decide on the full engine specification first, otherwise it is pointless. The engine must be built as a system, working as one whole, not thousands of parts. 4) exhuast. The whole system is poor, and most aftermarket systems are poor. The good ones are expensive and you will require a 4-2-1 manifold, not point in 4-1 if your not going high on the rpm or bhp. 5) Mapping. YOu will have to address this via the most applicable means to yourself, but you HAVE to alter the fueling and ignition maps. And why dont i like toda cams? They tend to be overcammed, they like big numbers and end up with harsh and overly aggressive valve acceleration rates and valve motions. |
