I agree, you can't just install a cat on any AE86 if it doesn't have one. This Fujitsubo cat is a direct replacement for the existing cat. If your AE86 already has a cat, the oxygen sensor should be located in the exhaust manifold. What you will lose with the Fujitsubo is the temperature sensor that the OEM cat has to warn the driver when it's overheating.

In Germany, when a car has a catalytic converter, it needs to adhere to smog laws. For them it would be an option, but then the product needs to have Tüv approval. That's not the case in the Netherlands; it's only mandated for cars built after 1993.
