RE: Banpei's two door panda Trueno from Japan
I recently printed one of the AE86.DDD door cups for the zenki GT Apex door cards:
I know you can still order them (only in maroon) but I was curious how well it would end up as a printed part. I only printed the left side to see the difference. I painted it with the AE86 zenki blue I had mixed up many moons ago. This is what it looks like compared to the original item on the right: As you can see, my original door cups are pretty much deformed, pitted, and cracked. Also, note that my door cards were probably produced on the 9th of June in Showa 58 (1983). That makes sense as according to the frame number, my car was manufactured in July 1983. This is the driver side (the right side) still mounted: And this is the printed cup: It's far from perfect as: 1. the print wasn't perfect as the bottom of the cup suffered from loose material (the 3d model is printed upside down and the printer can't print flat surfaces out of nowhere) 2. Weird bubbles in the paint: I painted them with the colour-matched paint and then applied a few coats of Dupli clear varnish. Apparently, the colour-matched paint is incompatible with the Dupli varnish and started to crinkle I'm not unhappy with the result as it's much better than my current door cups. I'll print new ones for both sides. This time I'll make sure the slope for the bottom of the cups is a bit more rounded. I'll also have some new coulor-matched paint that can resist clear varnish or try to match the color in RAL and find some filament made in a similar colour. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop:
