Oil discussions usually never end in any valuable conclusions.
My view on engine oil is simple: on any well used engine (100k+) I just throw in any oil I can get my hands on, cheap stuff bought from Lidl not excluded. Just make sure its the right specification (usually 10W40), and then make sure to do oil changes often enough (once every year). Throwing expensive oil in an old engine will not make it a better engine, so why bother. If it burns oil, might as well top off with cheap stuff. As far as tired 4age's are concerned I've had bad experiences with switching to thicker oil (15W40), if anything, my engines started consuming more oil after that. On a freshly built engine I would consider full-synthetic for sure. Never had one though, so I havent had to bother to figure out which one to use... I'm sure there are plenty that are more than good enough for a simple old 4age. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
