Cant you just combine a hub with a snap-off system to get some extra length? I also know they sell longer hubs for ae86's on ebay sometimes.

I can, and it will cost 100-150$ easily, look ugly and probably more heavy than machined boss kit :/

Steel can be heavy, but i'm sure it can't be dangerous if good made.
