Do it, its a million times better than a rod welder.
Go for a second hand Miller, you can get a single phase one for about 400€. Dont know about UK but over here you need a contract with a delivery company to get the argon gas, and its really expensive (you can weld you regular co2 used in bars for beer but over here you get a huge fine if your caught using those). ![[Image: AEU86 AE86 - ]](http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1082/capturar01.jpg "AEU86 AE86 -")
