the pic of the engine seems to be misleading. i bet the bulkhead back about 4-5 inches, and sat the engine back under the wiper housing. the itbs are litraly 5mm from the metal seam, and the heads are under. its as far back as i can put it without cutting into the wiper housing. ill have to get new pics of the engine in place.

I had this problem with my 1UZ and solved 70% of it by shifting the engine back about 10cm. The back of the rocker covers on mine now sit about 5mm behind where the firewall used to be.
