Engine mount replacement - tips/tricks ?
So my engine mounts are visibly splitting, but it was fairly obvious by the vibrations within the car.
I have new OEM mounts to change in. From cursory reading - I jack up the engine and undo the mounts, replace and bolt in the replacements. Manifold side looks easy enough, however intake side seems quite cluttered. Is there any tips/tricks people have for this task ? -MK7 GTi -Evo 5 -AE86 Levin |

Loosen the nuts before jacking under the sump pan (a block of wood is nice here!)
All the nuts are accessible you just need to work through them patiently. Make sure the nuts screw easily onto the new mounts while everything is on the bench. Don't be tempted to use nyloc nuts! Replacement is quite easy but lower the engine very carefully over the studs so as not to damage the threads. Fit all fixings after engine is sat on the mounts. An analogue brain in a digital World |

thanks Totta - good tips there. The mounts came with new washers and nuts, so should be ok. Hopefully will get a break in the rain here, and get it done over the weekend.

Because the crossmember has slots rather than holes you can loosely fit the mounts to the engine before lowering into place , this should ensure the thread on the engine side stud doesn't get damaged. Make sure the small studs fit into the holes on the mount cover plates. These will be obvious upon removal.
