What would it take?
Hey guys, I'm intrested in getting an AE86 sometime soon (hopefully) and I was wondering what it would take to get the car up to 200-250 hp while still keeping it NA? That should be more than enough for some fun, on the track and otherwise, with the car being so light, along with suspension and chassis mods...well, thanks in advance for your help!

It would take alot of money Huh

I would first spend the time and money on the suspension, chassis mods etc using the stock motor, you will be suprised how much fun you can have with it.. I wouldnt go spending too much money on the motor until you have suspension setup right and has been tested.

It would take an S2000 engine. Any 1.6 making that sort of power will be utterly useless on anything but the track or a benchracing session.

Good luck that S2000 engines are rather cheap..about half the money it would cost to mod a 4A-GE to 180 hp...though you do have additional swap costs.

Yes, and also pretty much impossible to pass any emissions test needed to keep it roadworthy due to the insane overlap that comes with the cams you need to run for that kind of power.

Hmmm, ok, so what would be reasonable to expect in terms of NA power that won't cost too much? 150hp? At least I won't have to upgrade the drivetrain that much with that kind of power...

A silvertop or blackop would make more than that stock, and a 4age with some tuning would get you there as well. Wink
Blacktops go for about 1500 euros these days, dunno about silvertops though.

150hp will cost you about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a F20C..anything up to 140hp can be had relatively cheap..about 1000E. More if you are not very skilled at tuning and wrenching..maybe a bit cheaper if you take a long time and hunt for bargains.

Silvertop makes about 140hp by the way..maybe 150 for blacktop.

Both true, depends on the engine. Toyota specs the blacktop as 165hp, but practically it would be lower. Silvertop should have a bit less hp than blacktop but should be cheaper to buy. Wink
TE71Corolla has one for sale, however a bearing broke down and you probably need to replace that first. Tongue

I just read up on the silvertops and blacktops, and they sound yummy. These engines would fit in a AE86 without any modification? That would be great...if I could find one. I'm in the US (New York), so I'd probably have to import one, which is expensive...and people do F20C swaps in these cars? That I never even heard of.
