What is this? + Oil temp sensor location
Hello,
I'm wandering what's the purpose of plug in the red circle?
And more important... can it be used for a oil temp sensor?
It also has a hole (around 8mm?) at the area of the yellow arrow.

I read in another topic that the oil temp sensor can be installed via the plug in the blue circle also but there was some rare threadsize or something.

Thanks a lot for the info.

No!!!

That´t the coolant draining plug for the block.

Why don´t you run a t-piece from the port where the original pressure sender sits? IIRC the thread is 1/8 NPT

I guess that's the best option since the other one doesn't even have oil behind it...

I'm affraid I ran my engine oil to hot this weekend.
I installed sumpguard (alloy) so now there is no cooling on the sump from underneath (cooling wind)
Anyone nows the effect on the oil temperature with a sumpguard installed. I drove sporty, but not pushing hard (no track, no race)? Oilcooler is standard.
Engine consumed almost 1l over +-600km. Normally it's much less
Confused Confused
Does high oil temp (= high temp. on bearings etc..) kill the Engine directly or over longer time only...
Hope the E/G is not F*cked Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad
I didn't hear or feel anything strange...

You just worry to much, I don´t see a sumpguard effecting the cooling that much.
Its hard to get oil temperature past 120deg with normal driving...

Much more important, mileage on you engine? What oil are you running?

WRONG !!!
It's 1/8 PT (or BSPT, it's the same thing)

NPT is an US norm, absolutely NOT the same thing !

BSPT = British Standard Pipe Tapered
NPT= National Pipe Thread Tapered

Thanks to all,

No worries about correct thread size I will take the sensor to the shop anyway. I will post the final correct answer :wink:

@fax0815
I know my engine is not that fresh anymore (almost 200.000km).
I run 10W40 Kroon-oil Emperol.
But consumption is [u:dd02500c18]suddenly[/u:dd02500c18] high and just after I installed the alloy sumpguard. That's why I was wandering about oil temp.
Anyway I bought temp gauge already so I will continue installation.

Sorry, just remembered when I fitted my defi gauges, I had the same problem, but you´re right its bspt, cause the defi sender bolted straight to the block Wink
