LOL! Big Grin

GR Heritage put up a video today featuring the rebuild of the GT-V, and in this video, they explain why they decided to reproduce the engine components:

Around the 1:47 mark, you can read (in the translation) that customers had been complaining that parts (the block? And the head?) were breaking, so they decided to reproduce them better.

If you pause the video @2:23 you'll clearly see they also created a RWD smallport manifold that they havent mentioned anywhere afaik.

OMG! Huh
That's a very sharp observation! Thumbs up!

I also watched this week's Cool JDM show (yes, that's actually a "real" title!) earlier today. One of their employees attended the Initial D 30th anniversary meeting, where all this was presented. Apparently, Toyota had two AE86es with them that had the G16E engine swapped into them. Huh
You can find the show here, and the section about this starts at the 1:57:44 mark:

From the video, seems that this AE86 does not have TVIS, which makes this a small port RWD version?

That kind of confirms my suspicions. 1) About 8-10 years back there was talk of Hasselgren developing a "new" 4AGE head. A new head from Toyota will automatically pass scrutineering, where as one from Hasselgren likely would not. 2) from my time in conversations with Arnie and his crew, block failures were directly related to rpm, and the ensuing block twist that would break the oil galley. So a new block with a more stout bottom end, and a new head with a bit more room for porting, a price of over $9000 for the pair tells me that these are primarily for F/A and N2.

Yes indeed, the head is smallport and the intake is a RWD.

@oldeskewltoy In the past things like turbo or 20v swaps were popular, but those aren't homologated for the AE86 in Group A and N. So it makes sense.
There aren't many with such deep pockets, except for the ones who want to have an "new" engine or want to get the most out of their engines within certain specs to "compete" in historic races.

Now it really makes sense, but it also makes the price tag way more realistic, and the parts much more interesting as such. Not that I can realistically afford them anytime soon with too many open projects...
