Question: Motor Swap (and others)
Hi, I just recently purchased a AE86 with the 4A carbeurated motor in it. I was wondering...can I swap the 20V 4A-GE motor into it? Would the Blacktop or the Silvertop be a better swap for it? If I did this swap, what would I need? Would I need a lot of custom parts made? It needs a new suspension...what would you guys recommend as far as good yet cheap? What would be the best exhaust for better flow? (thinking: Initial D sounding?) Anything else you could tell me about the car would be much appreciated! ^__^ -JDMRacer

Question: Motor Swap (and others)
Hey jdmracer,

I would say, start with a searchBig Grin

There are two guys on the forum currently busy with a swap from SR5 to something EFI'ed, one is currently going silvertop, one GZE if I remember correctly allthough the projects are progressing a bit slow. Lookup their project and technical threads and you'll find alot of information already as they've asked the same question you are now. The steps required to do the swap has been discussed extensively but we're still waiting for someone to actually do this swap and document the swap with pictures. evfan42 atleast is well on his way but still waiting on some much needed parts. I'm really hoping he gets them soon, it will be alot of fun tracking his progress. So far he's been keeping us nicely up to date on how he's gotten his SR5 back in running condition and his prep work with his silvertop.

Whether to get a silvertop or blacktop really is personal taste, blacktop is slightly more powerful and rumoured to be slightly more reliable. Which one is cheaper really depends on where you live I guess.

No idea about what would sound better exhaust wise, I'm sure everyone has a different opinnion about that Big Grin

Better work on suspension/rear end (swap to GTS one), chassis etc. first.
In club4ag tech articles you can find some information for SR5-to-GTS 20V swap.

PS: There is also another way - 4AGE 16V+cams+carburators+ignition management (or distributor implant).

Its mostly money! You need the wireloom from an engine and the computer. The rest is mostly custom made.

For a 20v there are now kits available to make the swap a bit easier!

Check club4ag for 20v swaps!
