I popped out of the EWI building this afternoon to have a look at your car :-)

I'm sad to see that it looks a bit sorry, but I thrust that it will all be alright someday. If you respray it it will look great!

Although I personally prefer cars to be original I like your grille very much. It just would be even nicer if it fitted tight)

I would much rather have seen it at home where it belongs, instead of in Delft.. Is it still in front of the TU building? My brother took the car using the 23 year old chewing-gum solid key (against my advice)...it is stranded because the ignition doesnt want to turn anymore. BTW, I know the grille is crooked, I have been looking for a good left headlight support for almost 2 years now..
When the rest of the car gets cleaned up I will put the old zenki stuff back (at least until I find a good bracket).

I'm going to tinker with the damn lock when I get home.. see if I can get it back to spijkenisse again. Probably going to order the rear panels from toyota myself so we can move on to the welding. Once that kicks off I'm deleting all the chitchat from this thread..

Hmmm, sounds like I have a similar problem but fortunately no chewing-gum key
My lock sometimes won't unlock or lock and I have to push the unlock button real hard.

I jiggled it free once again.. there's a nack to it. I saw a set of locks for ae86's for sale on ebay but decided notto buy them at 85 euro's...maybe I should have thought twice...

@banpei: Isn't your problem caused by the steering lock? It usually happens on my car if there's some force on the wheel pushing the steering wheel in to the lock (for example if you've turned the steering wheel left (into the lock) while standing still). Usually wiggling the steering wheel frees the ignition key.

@ivan: Is it just that your brother has a bad spare key or do you not have a good key at all ? Just have one made at a key shop, my father did that on his 32-year old key as well. It isn't required for the shop to have the exact right key, they can just make the profile on something similar. (In my dad's case a Volvo key for use in an MG). BTW I think it's a good idea to remove all this junk I posted, including this one :-)

No, it usually happens when turning off the engine and the steering wheel not locked: if I have trouble getting it to zero-contact it will probably give me trouble when starting. Lately the problems when starting are getting less annoying, but that could also be because now I know how to jiggle with it. I also tried wd40, but this had no effect.

However there is one other odd thing: I can remove the key from the lock anytime. So cruising the highway without keys in the lock is possible. This is something about the car which is known by all previous owners.

Ivan: can't you take the lock apart and see what is causing it?
To replace the lock is not my favorite: I personally prefer the original locks since I had 3 different keys with my mitsu which is VERY annoying when you make a mistake and take the sparekey-set instead of the worn originals: you can't tell them apart.
