pack Wrote:I suppose Portuguese AE86's came with open differentials.... Confused

things to do:

- New front shock absorbers (APEX springs in good shape)
- Stock Air filter, piping, etc...
- Repair my differential
- Some detail on the paint
- Security measures like, alarm, and some security tweaks...
And it's good to roll!

Thumbs up!

Hi mate, did you mount the apex springs? do you have a pic of the car with them mounted? are too hard?

Thanks

Hey! The car came already with them mounted.... And i don't have any pictures of them, at the moment.

I'm just guessing that those are APEX because they are yellow! Maybe they aren't... :S

Boas RT! Wink

As promised... updates on the project.

Since the last update, i've been enjoying the car very much. Really fun to drive, and i really like the damn car...

It requires alot of attention, and euro's! Damn, everything is so much expensive at the same time..... One thing at a time, and after some time it's done, it's my way of thinking when it comes buying things for the car!

Pics update!

Oil pressure problem, i was losing pressure at idle... Dunno what was the problem, solved when i bought the oring from the oil level thing.

I didn't knew what was the problem, so i took it to take a compression test, and the result is...

Has my differential, was gertting more and more DEAD... I was buying new parts, new final drive 4.55 and OEM open differential. When i changed it, and looked at the old one.... i was Huh

Look of the car months ago....

When i started working, i finally finished my degree at university, i thought that it was time to fix the water pump leak, by buying a brand new water piping kit! That's what i did with my first wage!

The disassembling part...

Got some bad news.... Day 1 of 2012, early in the morning and caught some ice on the road.. and my dream just shattered.....

Destroyed the front of the my AE86, and for some days now i was depressing with this.... I just love my car! simple as that...

Now with some more attitude i've decided to take the chance and make a full restauration to my car.... Inlcuding as much as possible now to make him the best!

Got some pictures....

poor you - anyway damages like these look worse than they are most of the time... I'd start with stripping down all the damaged parts and then check how much of a hit the chassis itself took (driver side chassis leg by the looks of the pictures). Another thing is the shattered rear windows, if it broke during the crash this would be down to only a few reasons: something smashed into it = good; chassis flexed too much = okish; some serious distortion traveled all the way to the back = bad.

Good look with sorting her out and don't despair.

PS: here you can find the measurements to check how much damage was done to the chassis:
