Check connector?

There should be a loose connector with only 2 terminals (of the 'female' type). I assume you have a 83-85 model then.
When you short the 2 terminals in the yellow connector the check engine light will give possible error codes and you can set distributor timing as well..it's all done with the same connector terminals bridged. I'll try to find a pic for you..
